J.J. Abrams has become something of a nerd movie messiah because of Star Trek, so I guess at this point people are just dumping every movie with a geeky basis on him.
Also, a Portal movie would be retarded. Half Life might work, but not if they make it about Gordon Freeman.

Stop saying that Portal and Half-Life movies wouldn't work. If they do get produced/released, they're not gonna be fucking retarded enough to direct in such a way that follows Chell or Gordon Freeman around as they say shit all and solve puzzles/kill things. It'll be like the Doom movie, just based in the same universe and calling into mention several aspects that are found within the games (i,e, Aperture Science and Black Mesa).

I think a Portal film could work actually, but it depends a lot on the manner of execution. For example, as an experimental thriller it could be very interesting.
The article says based on though. Not that they're going to be literal adaptations.
