Advice on Gimp...& More? 2013-07-14 18:06:28

Hey Newgrounds!

Okay, so I've recently picked up drawing on paper and doodling & was told by someone I knew who uses newgrounds a lot to "try editing with a program called Gimp".
So i've tried it a bit & used it to edit a few of my drawings for the past few days now & i'm not too sure if i'm getting the shading deal right or maybe i'm just doing lines wrong? (here is one of the pieces I had in question).

I have more art on my profile & that im working on paper with but I'm still a bit new to the whole art portal and how newgrounds in general operates; any help or advice on techniques, what programs to use, even basic newgrounds knowledge about the art forum or simple things about the site would be fantastic!

Thank you for taking time out of your day to see & have a good one!

Art tutorials:

I think that the shading tutorial will be especially useful to you. Perspective is also good to learn.
List of good programs- gimp is already a good choice though.
Basic art tips.

Newgrounds internal guide.
