Seriously?! Can someone please explain why a series of RPGs known as Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, starting with Revelations: Persona is so ignored? Not that I would play the first one, because it looks like a bag of ass, but starting with Persona 2: Innocent Sin, why has this series been wrongfully ignored? I mean, the writing, and the mechanics of gathering Personas, and using rumors in Persona 2 as a central mechanic was exciting, and still is. Not only that, but that mechanic plays out in the story perfectly! And why are Persona 3 and Persona 4 so ignored for that matter? I am currently 110 floors into Tartarus in Persona 3: Portable and am currently fighting the Last Battalion in Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and LOVED the Persona 4 anime.
ATLUS, you are deserving of more attention.
Sorry. I am just frustrated when great games like these get ignored.

I thought the Persona series was pretty much met with universal acclaim? Maybe persona 3 and 4 didn't quite get the attention they deserved because they were released on PS2 after the PS3 had already been released. People were most likely focused on the next generation of games. But to describe Persona as "ignored" seems a little inaccurate. It's a pretty famous and well know series. Persona 4 even got re-released on the Vita. The first three Persona games got PSP re-releases.

what're you talking about? the series has gotten so popular with 3 and 4 that there was a awesome spinoff fighting game(P4A), a radio show, concerts AND a musical. There was also a porno parody of the games.
It's so popular that it's among the likes of FF and Dragon Quest

I thought Persona was rather well received - it's got a pretty large following, to my knowledge. Maybe not as large a following as other JRPG titles like Final Fantasy, but it's still fairly popular.
now an Atlus game that does need more appreciation? Catherine. Such a fascinating psychologically sexual thriller with genuinely challenging puzzles, depending on your difficulty

Persona is alright. Don't hate me but I consider it underrated. But I will say one thing is kinda better than other JRPG games these days.

Yeah, I thought Persona 3 and 4 were immensely popular nowadays.
I played Persona: Revelations myself. I wouldn't describe it as a "bag of ass", the game is still okay actually. My only major complaint is the lack of save points. I sometimes had to play on for three hours straight before I could finally take a break.

JRPGs are always ignored.
My favorite games of all time come from the tales series of games and many others who play the games love them as well. Despite how loved the series is by those who have played it only two games in the series have ever sold over a million copies worldwide. Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Destiny.
I've introduced the series to all of my friends starting with tales of symphonia and I can say none of them have ever heard of the tales games before I introduced them to it. Getting to the point they loved the game and wanted to play more. I have since played Tales of Symphonia dawn of the new world, Tales of Vesperia, and Tales of Graces F with them as well and they have greatly enjoyed playing the games. We are going to be playing Tales of Xillia next month as well and also Xillia 2 when that comes out. (Just a note this was over the course of a few years. I only had symphonia when I first introduced them to the games around 2008-2009)
Among JRPG games many games like Tales, Persona, Fire Emblem, you name it they get largely ignored. If the game isn't named final fantasy and it's a JRPG it probably won't sell that much. Doesn't matter how good the game is that's just how it works unfortunately.

In JRPG circles, I'm sure that everyone has heard of Persona, and most of them have played at least one of them. At least in that respect, people aren't ignoring Persona, and the ones that do probably aren't fans of the JRPG genre in the first place.
In the grand scheme of the video gaming world, the Persona franchise {and Shin Megami Tensai franchise as well} is generally under the radar because it's a game in a largely niche genre in the West. Of course, that doesn't mean that it's bad, far from it, but there simply isn't as much appeal beyond the JRPG fanbase, it is what it is.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

Because it's a JRPG, which has a notion of being a "waifu date sim" to people who play WRPGs like Skyrim and the like.

JRPGs are often neglected or ignored. That said Persona 3 and 4 were pretty popular.

The only one I've ever played was the first one years ago, but I remember thinking it was great, though I never finished it. I heard the American version (the one I played) was butchered, though.
