And you've just used the No True Scotsman fallacy. According to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition, a musician is "One who composes, conducts, or performs music, especially instrumental music." That definition does not exclude covers. If one mostly writes covers, mostly conducts cover, or mostly performs covers, they are still a musician. They might not necessarily be a good musician, but a musician nonetheless.
