I went to Mexico to see the Mayan ruins for a few weeks. There was a lot of poverty there but it wasn't horrible.
The same amount of time it took for me to finish reading this thread and typing this reply.

Three days was my max and that was in the non shitty part of mexico. Then I jumped an plane to Jamaica because I knew I better.

Jamaica is much worse than Mexico outside of the resorts.

I heard a story from a now-not-my-friend, who told me about how his dad refused to pay the toll and they took the nailboards to his car. Hmm. Perhaps my vacation could be spent somewhere less fucked up :)

Not by much Jamaica has been getting its shit together. Plus go to Northern part of Jamaica its really nice. Plus you don't have to worry as much about being mugged or being killed like in Mexico.
