Most of the time when legal guns are used to hurt people it's usually against the user themself, on purpose. Having legal guns increases the suicide rate because they're pretty dependable suicide machines. Any other method like trying to overdose on drugs isn't as dependable and takes more time, hell Kurt Cobain tried OD'ing until he just killed himself with a shotgun. Most suicides are spontaneous anyway, people just simply decide at that moment to do so, usually if they don't they stop thinking about it, so having less legal guns available for these people would make the suicide rate go down. Either way, I'm going to assume the person who feels they need a gun is going to get it illegally anyway.
we're not talking about suicide.
Although I don't know what you mean "works great in other states", Red states still have gang crime and higher rates of overall crime so I don't know what you're talking about.
bullshit Red States have more overall crime. California, illinois and New york alone constitutes 1/3 of overall crime in the country. and most red states are in the midwest where crime is lower than the national average

I'm just saying people should be allowed to protect themselves it gives the criminals and gangs the mentality that these are sheep that can be easily exploited. implement the measure for citizens to defend themselves should be a measure to decrease crime along with social measures like Education improve infrastructure, and creation a surplus of jobs,

Yes we were talking about how legal gun ownership affects crime. It doesn't, all it does is lead to a higher suicide rate. Like I said, you're assuming the average citizen is a bad ass action hero, they're not, it takes alot for someone to actually kill someone and simply giving them a gun won't do it.

Probably because those 3 states constitute 1/3 of the overall population. And no they have lower crime rates in the MidWest not because of gun control but because the population is more rural and there wasn't much crime to begin with, not because the population fights back against criminals. You have yet to actually prove that gun control increases crime, just that there's a correlation but no causation.
Otherwise let's look at a map of overall violent crime.

See? There's no correlation between blue states and red states in terms of crime.

Let's take a peek at this now, shall we?
What sort of crimes does having a gun actually deter or stop? Single of dual person crimes that are meant to be get and go (mugging, robbery), or the home invasion sort (AKA burglary).
Do gangs perpetrate these crimes? Yeah, sometimes. However when it comes to gang shootings, they most often tend to be open air and brazen incidents. In other words, they don't give a fuck if anyone sees or has a gun. Gangs think of themselves as soldiers who are willing to die and will likely die for the gang. Violence and/or the threat of violence does not deter them. In fact, in many cases, such a threat will only embolden them.
Adding guns to this sort of criminal culture does little more than introduce more firepower for the taking. Having a gun does stop certain crimes, and certain criminals, but not the kind that exist in gang neighborhoods.

Atanta, GA. San Antonio, TX. Memphis, TN. New Orleans, LA. El Paso, TX.
Some of the WORST locales for crime are in die hard Red states. This doesn't even count Detroit, St. Louis, or Cleveland in purple states.
Your correlation is both lazy and wrong. Furthermore, I posit that the correlation you are making is actually reverse of the truth. You claim "high gun control leads to crime." When in reality it's more like "High crime leads to gun control."

I agree on Atlanta and Memphis,
New Orleans is pretty loose for a red state,
El Paso has drug problems with the cartels and the border,
but I lived in San Antonio, and it seemed like the safest city I've ever been in o.o
Oklahoma City felt more dangerous than it.
