Looking for an Artist! 2013-07-05 15:54:39 Reply

Hello Newgrounds,

I am not entirely sure whether or not I am posting this in the correct forum but I do believe I am close nonetheless. I am looking for a dedicated music producer that has had a good and reputable music career here on Newgrounds to help collaborate with me and a graphic designer in developing an upcoming video game that is in very early progress.

Colour Matching
And so this is the title of the game. Colour Matching is a video game that was previously not-so-well-known on Sourceforge and CNET but still floats around here and there. However, that was back in the day when the video game was open source. Now the game is partially closed source - by this I mean the game engine is open source, but the game code itself is not. The game engine is my own, which is half done and needs to be complete before I can move onto developing the actual game.

What did the previous Colour Matching have?
Colour Matching was primarily a game literally about matching colours, developed in Visual Basic on .NET Framework 3.5. It was written from scratch, and I will continue this strategy into the complete revamped version of the new (commercial) Colour Matching video game. In addition, the video game involves four game modes: Classic, Endless, Sudden Death and Endless Sudden Death. Sudden Death involved matching colours only when the base colour was NOT black.

Classic involves matching colours in a rather progressive way, by going through individual levels over time and extending those levels by upgrading the level cap in the in-game shop using reserved experience. Endless is similar, but takes away the actual level-up progress system, so there are no pauses between levels in which you can get in-game consumables, upgrades and whatnot. There are also achievements.

The game is getting a complete revamp, so all the features are completely different but the original concept of Colour Matching is similar, with added features, including the ability to charge spells, gain combo and take advantage of the timer (essentially the enemy).

You can find the works of both the game engine and the latest version of the old Colour Matching on Codeplex.

To make matters easier for me, I wish to start looking for a music producer now so that I don't waste time looking for one when I do eventually start developing/testing the video game.

My website, or rather the company website, can be found here: http://www.colour-id.net/

The name of the business is Colour Multimedia Enterprises (or just Colour Enterprises), and we are based in the small town of Yate just on the outskirts of Bristol in the UK. The business is merely a home-based business at the moment, of course if Colour Matching becomes successful then we can expand.

Now onto the recruitment instead of the history and blatant advertising of the company and video games.

Interested?
The music for Colour Matching is going to be a rather extensive library, so if you're up for dedicating some of your time with this project, I would be gladly honoured to take you on.

In order to qualify, you must have Skype, have a way of communicating in chat with other members of the team, be a mature person that is at least 18 years of age. The age restriction is simple: I do not want to recruit someone outside of my jurisdictions that is not fit for the purposes of getting paid, i.e. owning a PayPal account.

The payment is different to what you might expect. The reason I am here recruiting instead of in the real world is because I do not have the financial or legal resources to dedicate my time in full recruitment procedures. For this reason, I am looking for cheaper, alternative ways in which to gain dedicated artists that are willing to produce music for this game. Please do not contact me if you are under age 18, I will know that when we speak in Skype chat.

If the video game is successful, which I cannot guarantee it will, then I will be willing to share 15% of the sales of the video game's micro-transactions (since the video game will be released free-to-play) to each of the members of this project - in total three. I will earn a total of 70% in order to reinvest into getting a dedicated website for the video game, a video game server ready for customer accounts, and more resources required such as full establishment of the company. Yes, there will be MULTIPLAYER in Colour Matching... Sounds crazy, doesn't it?

So, if you are willing to take the risk, I would be greatly appreciated. You can send an email to brutalexcess@gmail.com if you wish to apply - I won't use my company email for obvious reasons.

Your application should include
Your Newgrounds account name; if it is not otherwise obvious, I will be making sure you are the correct person by sending an in-house message to your NG account name for clarification.
Your Skype username.
Your age - don't waste my time, if you doubt your age to be suffice enough for the job role and do not have a PayPal account, I will not accept you.
Your PayPal email address.
Any additional notes.

Please do not provide any of this information in this thread as it is against forum rules.

To make sure I can get 99% guarantee the video game will be a success, when all of the major bugs in the initial Alpha version are resolved I will be looking into sharing my video game with journalist John Bain, known commonly as TotalBiscuit, which I hope he will do an "Early Look" of later this year.

Once again, I am unsure if I am posting in the right forum or whether I am within forum rules (I have read them, but I am unsure if this thread falls under the category of advertising my website for no reason whatsoever, which I don't think it does).

Feel free to ask questions about the music and/or general theme of the video game. The graphics of the video game is cartoon-like, so music should be in a theme that carries the graphics. This will be reminded in reply of an application. Thanks once again for any appreciation and support in advance, and thank you to any artists that wish to consider this role.

You should treat all deals made by email as contracts. If you are in doubt, please do not email me. I have sufficient enough business knowledge to take you through UK Contract law if need be in email, but I cannot tell you whether or not this is acceptable in your jurisdiction if outside of the UK.

It's nice to see requests written in so much detail because we often just get vague one-liners asking us for music. This is indeed the right place to ask for a musician!

I'm interested but I have some issues:
1.) What kind of music are you looking for and how much music are we looking at exactly?
2.) I'm 18 but I don't have a PayPal account because where I live the debit cards aren't compatible with foreign transactions and I have no credit card. In situations like these I would usually use my dad's PayPal account, if that's not a problem.
3.) I'm not comfortable actually talking on Skype. Is typing a problem?
4.) I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we'd like to see some more of your work or some kind of portfolio. In these kinds of deals where we're not prepaid there's no guarantee the project will pull through and if it doesn't, nobody gets paid, so I'd personally like to rest assured that you have experience.

Sorry if I missed something, I skimmed through the opening post a bit too quickly!

There are links in the previous post to my portfolios, though I will link again here for reassurance:

http://colourcore.codeplex.com/ - This will be used as the game engine for Colour Matching.
http://colourmatching.codeplex.com/ - This is an old version of Colour Matching. I will upload the PDF to the plan of the revamp momentarily and link it in the Original post so that you can take a more detailed look at the video game in progress (there are few diagrams).

You can type on Skype if you wish to - chatting will make communication easier for the rest of us but if you prefer to type that is no problem. I am also comfortable with you using your father's PayPal account unless your debit card can accept bank transfers (we can go through this in email for security purposes) - you should ask his permission first, of course.

As for the amount of work you will be looking at, I can only estimate about 9-10 songs to start with, but this will grow as more graphical themes are put into the game, as music will carry the graphics, as I mentioned.

Okay, apparently I cannot edit the original post, which is really annoying.

For people wanting the plan of the revamped version of Colour Matching, see here.

10+ songs is a bit too much for me I'm afraid. That's practically 150 - 300 hours of work for me (depending on the length of the songs of course). Thanks for being understanding though. I'll link this thread to other musicians I know to see if they're interested.

Just for clarification, here are the current "plans" for the music, but you will closely communicating with me and the graphic designer (mostly the graphic designer) in making the music. Here is the music track names(in order of appearance):

1. Colour Matching Intro Music
2. Menu Music
3. Snow on the Mountains
4. Avalanche (Boss Theme)
5. Upon on the Green Hills
6. Spiky Grass (Boss Theme)
7. Cavernous Depths
8. Trembling on Rocks (Boss Theme)

There will be more, as I said, as more graphical themes get implemented.

Please understand that this project is being undertaken PART-TIME, I do not have all the time in the world in producing this video game as well as trying to find a job financially back myself up. You're commitment to this project is VOLUNTARY until further notice.
