If you had read, this cure is impractical.

"...not a practical cure because of it's costs and complexities..."
If enough people DEMAND it, then insurance will eventually have to start paying out for it.
If demand of the procedure increases, the supply of professionals who may perform the procedure may increase, lowering the price, until the average insurance company would pay.
It has been cured, because money is not a factor in disease, it is a concept in the human mind. Therefore is money does keep HIV from being cured, it is only in the sense of a psychological illness.

The way they talk about it, it sounds to be just a little more complex than a bone marrow transplant.
That makes the assumption that most surgeons are incapable of learning such a technique.
What it boils down to in the end, is people expecting to be paid large amounts of money, in exchange for ever increasingly complex operations that need to be performed in order to stop a deadly disease.
What's more expensive and complex though? A lifetime of drugs to take every day, several times a day, that comes with debilitating side effects, or an expensive, one-shot, complex operation?

I agree, although this was very big news for stem cell researchers, sadly it is not a practical cure. Between the legal restrictions on stem cell procedures and the amount of money it takes to actually pull this sort of procedure f (mostly because the legal restrictions) I just can't see any middle class patient being able to afford it.
But I'm sure within the next 10 years or so someone will come up with something to help make it available

Yeah and if enough people demanded to have body parts grown on mice insurance would have no choice to pay for it, right?
Except it would cost 4.25 billion dollars a shot.
If a cure isn't applied because its impractical, then it's probably pretty fucking impractical.

Basically not even a cure at that rate, an unreachable cure isn't a cure.

"Brown's doctors used a donor who had a rare genetic mutation that provides resistance against HIV."
Oh dear god if I had that genetic mutation I would be whoring the fuck out of it to rich people.

Well....why don't they breed cells with DNA that contain the mutation? It's easy enough to do...

Sure, grow some tissue from the gene holder. But how is that transferable to a patient? Unless the gene is implemented from birth, there's no use.

Well silly, maybe use the cells in a bone marrow transplant....just like they did on the first 2 patients? My guess is the legal restrictions on cloning and further using the donor's cells..
I don't think any scientist wants to take the heat for another Henrietta Lacks..
But hey if I got my hands on that mutation, I'd steal it. Who cares if I'm labeled a "gene thief" and sued down to the shoes on my feet, I'd still be saving millions of lives..

They cured this shit a long time ago. Magic Johnson never even missed a damn day of work. They're just now telling the commoners about it.
