Asked my boss for a raise

I asked to speak with him in private, he said ok. Took me into his office, closed the blinds shut the doors.

I told him, I been working at my company for a year and a half. During that time I have matured and gone above and beyond my call of duty. I am loyal to my boss and my workplace. I am currently doing a job that takes 3 people to do in my department. I don't slack and always focus on what needs to be done. "having said that" I would like a raise.

He said he would talk to Ron, the manager of accounts/business. The person who I am also on good terms with.

Chances are pretty good ill get it. But I would be lying if I said I was not nervous, stepping into that office.

Anyone have a similar situation?

I hope for a 1 dollar raise, which is the usual in my company. Would be nice to make 11.75 a hour

I've actually never asked any of my bosses for raises before. I usually just waited until they decided to pay me more.

On the other hand, at my new job, I am expected to ask for a raise when I feel I have gained enough experience. That's a weird feeling. I already started at $12, so I feel pretty damn good right now. Asking for more is going to feel really awkward.

Yup. My buddy asked his boss for more money a while back, but wasn't very specific about it being a raise.

He got screwed. He gave him more hours, in the form of two 4 and 1/2 hour split-shifts.

What that means is that he works 9 hours a day, with no breaks. Where I am from, you get a paid ten-minute break if you're working five hours, or two ten minute breaks, and a non-paid lunch, if you work a full 8 hour day in one shift.

(Pro-tip: read up on your state's laws about paid breaks, non-paid breaks, and when you can take them. Your employer will usually lie about any law regarding breaks.)

Was there a particular reason you asked for a raise such as rent going up for example? If the manager feels that the raise is really needed for something important rather than just extra shopping money, then you will be far more likely to get the raise. :)

Also, if you don't, it's a professional thing to ask why and ask to have it explained in detail.

If you're there in 6 to 12 months and ask again for a raise, you'll already have been told what you need to improve in to get it.
