I'm more Irish than most Americans and I consider myself 0% Irish

Pfft, "obsession" is taking it a little far, hell, most Americans aren't even interested in the Irish. A lot of em came here to spite Britain, many came here after the potato famine, we treated them like second class citizens in large cities for a long time and gave them our shitty jobs with dangerous conditions like Coal Mining, Industrial workers and what not. After that, they got a Square Deal from Teddy Roosevelt, conditions improved with time, they assimilated quickly into the American public especially as the race protests post WWII heated up and Whites didn't want to alienate other whites. After that, it didn't matter. I don't think there's ever been an "obsession" with the Irish, American or otherwise.

I'm pretty sure most of the "Irish fanaticism" is localized to the northeast US. hardly representative of the entire fucking country despite what the media tells you.

I once heard a canadian refer to himself as "nordic-scot"

but yeah every american is convinced they're irish because their great-great-great-grandmother's daughter's pet fish lived in derry for a month

So you're just trying to say that every single person who lives in the US is Caucasian? What about the massive population of non-whites in this country? I doubt a person of Mexican or Asian or Middle Eastern descent is going to just say "Oh I'm part Irish." However, I'm one of those rare exceptions.

Scots are better than those Potato Bastards.

Besides, America hated the Irish when they were immigrants during the 19th Century.

I've often thought the same thing. I've noticed even I do it. I seem suspiciously proud of my Irish heritage, and I have no idea why.

I apologize in advance.

I enjoy playing up my Irish and Finnish lineage by pointing out that I love to drink and spent most of my time alone in the dark.

Are you from Ireland or were you born in the US and have Irish ancestry? If you're not the first one, it doesn't count. People born in the US have American accents. Pretty obvious.
