...I wonder if it could be done in a laboratory setting with artificial lightning. I know the local utility company rent's out their transformer (power lines, dummy) lab sometimes for weird stuff like this.

The best place to take shelter in a lightning storm, if no physical shelter is available, is to sit in an empty clearing, as low to the ground as possible, while removing all conducting devices from your person.

When I was a kid, I was sitting in my Mom's apartment during a storm, watching my cousin play FF7 when we all felt a rumbling under us and the power went out. The big tree in front of the house was struck by lightning and fell across the street onto some power lines. Good thing it didn't fall the other direction, into the house.

When NOAA tells you to seek fucking shelter and get to the innermost part of your house, they fucking mean it. I wanna scream every time I find out some kid was outside during one of these storms and dies, way to go parents.

Lol that's nothing to the shit I dealt with Natick. Tree got struck a whole branch on another fell luckily there was no damage.

Lol slint the weather here in Minnesota has been crazy we had 6 inches of snow mid April all this rain and now storms for the whole weekend. We had severe thunderstorms and wind at 40 Mph with gusts over 70.

No possible way you could sleep through lightning striking this close to you. I've witnessed a bolt of lightning strike a couple houses off on the street, from inside my home's window, and the noise is huge. The only way I can describe it is as a powerful bomb going off. Every single car alarm in the street went off.

alright, truth be told, i heard a very loud bang at 10pm while drying up my porch only it was blocks away from our house and the firemen were already on their way. i never found out what it was though. still i never heard this particular tree get struck when i was awake or asleep
