It makes sense, actually. You get to see the extremes of both sides and are able (somewhat, I should say) to form your own (non)opinion on the matter at hand, while at the same time not really caring.

That is, unless you are the one doing the flaming. Then usually you're blinded by basically everything that doesn't agree with your POV. That's what adds the flames to the fire

but then if you are simply reading along.. then you are learning about how both sides know about the topic and their views on the topic..

so my question that i posed originally stands... why are flame wars bad...
yes you will get a thread that reaches page 6 and 2-6 people that hate each other.. but they already hated each other to begin with..

noobs to the board dont have to partake in stuff like that.. and it allows people to really ... really.. talk about problems that they may have and so forth

upper level people that dont want to partake in something .. they wont
the common worth of people will see something and chose to partake or not
