AustinBreed has announced Game Jam 9, which begins NOW with a one week art jam!
The theme is "Screenshots You Want to Play", where artists create a pretend game screenshot. Teams will then have their choice of screenshot and two weeks to develop a working game based on it. Read the official post for more info! Dates are also up on the calendar.

You don't have to use the whole two weeks, you can just do what works for you!
I can't complain about having 2 weeks, parents interrupting won't be an issue now. It does seem a bit long, though; it'll be interesting to see the games since there's 4-5 times as long to make them.

I can get a screenshot for a game concept pooped out.
Loving all the mixing of different subcultures on the site recently. First the NATA novice theme and now the game jam, even the VA competition had some intermixing with the animatic that was made. I'm not sure if this is all just starting to happen, or if I simply hadn't noticed before; either way I like it!

So do the developers need to rely only on the screenshot to make the game, or can the artists make a description for them to use as well?

Ya know what's crazy, I never saw Space Jam growing up - I think I was already too old when it came out. I never knew it was the origin of the Star Syndicate theme song until a few months ago when I watched it with my kids.

I think it's best to leave it to the developer's imagination, vs any additional explanation.
