I just saw 'chipstep' in the list, so naturally i looked it up on google and the definition read; hipsters making music with chip instrumentation.

So thats what it has turned into huh, im a hipster now?

chipstep = dubstep made with chip, basically. actual chipstep artists are zef, monodeer, stress_tn, cheapshot... among others of course. ofc most people posting in chipstep are just posting whatever chip-style music and wondering what the fuck chipstep even is haha

Yeah thats pretty much why i made this thread cause it was unclear to me if chipstep was meant as the place where you were supposed to post all your chipmusic or just for 'dupstep made with chip instrumentation'

Seeing as google defined it in a general sense i dont really know whats up.

I'd prefer my 8bit music not to be called step, i personally call it bitclassic, or classical 8bit.

I suppose i will just have to keep putting it in videogame music genre right?

If you don't like dubstep, you don't have to listen to it. I was surprised how many people like that chipstep stuff. It's fun to make and not too serious - I find it quite relaxing.

.. and believe me, hipsters would not produce anything with "step" in it. ;D

I have been wondering this for a while myself.
How did a sub-category of two larger genres get into the list while one of the parent genres is still not accounted for?
Seems a "chiptune" category is long overdue. anything with the phrase 8-bit inside of it would result in a lot of false labeling. Chiptune is a much broader term - and totally should be in the list.
