Hello peeps. 4 days ago

Just wanted to say hi.
Maybe make some musician friends.
Or really any kind of friend.
Just started Newgrounds today.
I've got some music up so maybe give it a listen.
Don't be shy.
I don't bite... hard.

Hello, I'm pretty new here as well.
I'll give your songs a listen here. What sorts of music do you like?
I'm always looking for new friends.

I'll listen to anything really. But I'm one of those people that listens to stuff from the 60's, 70's, 80's and not the mainstream crap that's been played today.
But my favourite genres are probably ambient, electronica, progressive rock and experimental stuff.

Awesome dude, your music is fantastic.
I was pleasantly surprised. Either way, that is pretty cool.
Who are some of your main influences? And may I ask which programs you use to make your songs?
I'm diggin' your sounds. I like a lot of stuff from most anywhere honestly. I'm an anthropology/sociology major so I like listening to music from all over the world and from different eras and genres. I'm pretty open to music.
Some of my favorites from those eras that you mentioned are probably the Doors, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and the really awesome classic rock bands. However, I also really like Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Bauhaus from a little later.
I'm Zee, by the way. Welcome to the portal. I can be talkative, I apologize.

Thanks for the compliments. You're too kind.
Your music was really great as well.
I have a lot of influences but my main ones would be Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath (which you've already mentioned, I see) and definitely Tangerine Dream; they inspired me to get into the ambient electronica scene.
As for programs, I actually play everything on a synthesizer and use Audacity to edit it. So you can say I'm quite old fashioned when it comes to writing and recording my music. But I recently got Ableton Live which I'm hoping to start using.

Sorry for the late introduction. You can call me Nebulous.
And thanks for the welcome!
Don't worry, I love to talk a lot as well :)

I actually have never heard of Tangerine Dream, so I'm checking them out now! Any suggestions for songs/albums to listen to first?
Oh man, that is old school and I admire that. Are you using an analog synth? Also, Ableton is one of my favorites as it is really minimalist yet does everything I'd need it to. I'm saving up for a launchpad actually, I'd like to start performing live at some point. I usually use Ableton and FL Studio. Also, I have audacity on my computer but haven't used it yet (whoops). Is it pretty worthwhile for sampling?

IT's amazing how so little people have heard of the band considering they've been around for almost 40 years and made over 100 studio albums.
I would definitely recommend tracks like Phaedra, Rubycon, Song of The Whale and Birth of Liquid Plejades. Of course that's not even scratching the surface but it's a start haha.
I am using an analog synth, a very old one in fact, so that's why my music isn't that of the highest quality. But hopefully Ableton will fix that problem.
Audacity is OK, but it's pretty basic and is probably not as flexible and high-tech as other sampling/editing programs. I only use it because that's what I had when I made my music for the first time.
By the way, is Ableton difficult to use at all? I tried using FL Studio and it was pretty full-on so I was just wondering if Ableton is any "easier".

That is pretty awesome that they've done so much and continue going even with the lack of recognition. That is admirable. So far I'm really enjoying Phaedra, I started the album a couple of minutes ago. They have certainly mastered ambiance and mood. Honestly, I started using FL Studio, and I found it pretty user friendly, though I did have few problems with the interface. Once I jumped to Ableton, I found it super easy to get the hang of and there are tons and tons of youtube videos with all sorts of tutorials for both Ableton and FL. I'd suggest watching some of those, they really helped me when I first started out. However, I think that Ableton would be easier to grasp if you've been using analog.

You can really say that they were the founding fathers of ambient electronice along with artists like Klaus Schultz and Brian Eno.
OK, thanks for the input. I'll give Ableton a spin and see how I go :)
