Before i get trolled, or spammed with cruddy replies, please check out my user page, to see my previous games. Alternatively, you can check out this link, and play a demo of a game i'm also currently working on.
I'm well versed in games design, and i'm in the market for someone (a programmer) to bring to life my latest idea.
I DREAM OF RUNES (working title)
ABOUT THE GAME
Currently, the game is just an idea on paper. The basic premise for the game is a top down, open world explorer. Much like classic Legend of Zelda. Take control of a young girl, who unfortunately has very bad dreams and nightmares. The game is set in her head. As she sleeps, she wanders her barron and dark dreamscape, trying to make sense of her nightmare. In her dream, she is not alone, as there are a multitude of creatures that could wake her up at any moment, buy just grabbing her!
GAMEPLAY
As i said before. This game plays 2d, in a top down view. The "dreamscape" or world, is randomly generated each time you play. Giving a new experience each time you play.
You (the player) must avoid being taken by the dark creatures that fill the dream world. You can do this by creating your own spells. CREATING YOUR OWN SPELLS? How do you do this you might wonder... With runes, i will say in answer to your pondering question! Runes, are spell parts that you can combine to make spells. The game will focus on these runes and the possibilities, and combinations that the player can come up with. This may seem a little confusing, but if you're interested in working with me on the game, i'll explain more.
So, anyway... The Runes combine to make spells, that you then use to help you explore the world. The spells could have a magnitude of outcomes, such as offensive, defensive, creating objects, destroying objects, improving speed, luck, so on and so on.
Currently, this is all i'm willing to disclose, and would like to discuss things more in depth 1-1 with people.
AIM OF THE GAME
For this game i really want to focus on two things. Building a thick and uneasy atmosphere that isn't very inviting to explore AND then giving the player the option to choose how they play with their spells. Hopefully this will create interesting experiences, and could possibly make the game different for everyone who plays it.
PUBLISHING AND PROGRAMMING
First of all, let me start by saying, flash ain't no friend of mine! Me and flash have come to a disagreement lately, and i think its time for us to part ways. I use flash for art and animation, but with the complexity of the games i would like to make flash doesn't seem a viable publishing platform. I'm interested in working with a programmer, who would be able to work on a game using another language, other than AS2 or AS3.
If the prototyping of the game works out well, i would like to publish this game on the interwebs. If the game has the potential, it would be nice to aim for a steam greenlight campaign, but if not, we can set up a website, where people can donate towards the game, and download it.
I'm looking for someone fun and committed to work with. I'm happy for the game to be learning experience, for the both of us, but i require someone with a good solid knowledge of their language of choice and feels confident that they can create a high quality game. If you are interested in working with me on the game, prototyping is EVERYTHING, and we will quickly need to get stuck into the think of it.
Lastly, please note that i'm a full time independent designer, and this is what gets me the bread money. I can't stress enough how much i need someone that is dedicated and committed for this project to not flop over like a dead tuna.
Thanks for reading, this was a mammoth of a post, and for the most part, i guess it was boring as fuck.

I'm very interested as to why you do think that flash is not a 'viable publishing platform' pinpointing the complexity of the game as a reason. I would say that unless the game is decisively complex and/or needs something quite specialized (both of which I think should not really be the case because you're publishing it to the interwebs.) flash is still (and in fact very) viable.

I've been working on a flash game with my friend Torrunt for almost two years, and its very problematic. There are performance issues, file size issues, and thing that we want to do that just can't be done in flash. We're even considering remaking what we have from the ground up in another language just to avoid the delays that flash is giving us.
I think that for small browser based games, flash is fine and sill very viable. But, i don't think that flash will handle this game very well, considering some of the complex mechanics that i plan to implement.
Please write in this thread when you find a JAVA/C (or other non-AS) programmer whom you decided to work with.
So that we know you're done with searching and can stop bothering.
I'd be really happy to program something like that.
But unfortunately, I have only Flash. I was about to learn C++, but still haven't started it yet. Neither Java. I have no idea how you're going to export vector drawings & animation from an SWF.
But a real programmer surely will figure that out. Oh btw, real programmers usually work for money. And you'll find only novice enthusiast here, who are looking for practice. Better post your request elsewhere, if you're not going to do it in Flash.
I don't want to sound all too reverent and faithful, but... sigh... The strongest power in the universe is human spirit.
I like your game and your passion, it has potential. But I want to be straight and forthcoming as I can. I can write this on whatever mobile device, or XBOX/Steam whatever your pick, but in return I want a good cut for my work. You can keep all the credits and everything else not even mention me if you prefer. How much time it will take to export all your graphical assets to PNG files, what's your time frame? and most important, I would expect a very reasonable percentage from sales.
Kind Regards
Taras
well I am interested and would be wiling to do this but currently im just starting to learn python as well as a student so as for commitment I couldn't do this 24/7 but for a small side project I would love to help you and for the idea it sounds great I also have been extremely interested in making a game just like that as for payment all I want is to be mentioned that's it keep your money I just want the expeirience

Hey DoodleBin. I just wanted to say that flash is still the most viable platform for browser based games, since you did mention that you plan on publishing it through the interwebs (and probably want it playable in the browser). If you want it to run as a native desktop application then you have a plethora of options like C++ which is very performant.
But, if for browser, then flash would be the way to go really, since there's no better alternative. (Note that I just mean 'flash' not really AS3- a comple to flash like Haxe runs better than AS3)
Hello, I am not an experienced programmer but I do have some ideas. I played the demo and enjoyed it up until the horde came and ate me alive in under 10 seconds. I believe it would be swell if I could help, not as a leader, not as equals, but an underling unto you so that I will stay hidden to the republic (so that people will not know that I am helping until I make my breakthrough.) I use a simple method to make my games, but they do have quite a few hits if I do say so myself. I am at your service to help you, but only if you want me to.
So, do we have a deal?
