Walking a ferret

So with the lose of my beautiful dog it's feeling a bit lonely in the house. I've briefly thought about a few different pets I'd like to look after but only briefly because my dog meant so much to me that the idea that he's so easily replaceable and forgotten saddens me. Also we're broke. I've thought about pugs and sausage dogs and kittens but there's always been an animal that I've wanted. A ferret.

They're pretty much the best thing ever and I plan to learn a lot more about them. They're like a mix between dog and cat. Very playful. Very cute. Very unique.

But the thing about them is they need to be walked regularly. I was a lazy, depressed asshole for a lot of my dogs life and so still is my Mum and I regret not walking my dog enough until the very end.

I'm probably going to pay for this thing myself and I want it to be the best it can possibly be both physically and mentally. But I'm a vain mother fucker and I want to know

Will I look like a retard walking around with a ferret on leash?

Honestly, if I saw a guy walking down the street, walking a ferret on a leash, I would instantly think "That's the gayest rich guy I've ever seen".

Go for it man, my room mate had one and he was cute as hell. We always fed him vegetables, cheerios(any non sugar cereal), bananas or canned cat food. Make sure you wash them weekly/every other week though because otherwise they can build up a very powerful smell. Also, what breed of ferret are you looking to get? I suggest the black footed ferret, one with a bandit's mask, I think you have to specify if you're ordering him.

They love those carpeted cat houses, by the way. Anything they can sneak around and hide inside of, they love tunnels and tight spaces. The first year or two you own him/her is very important, if you intend to teach them any tricks or behaviours that should be the time frame you do it. Use treats as they are a powerful tool. They're really an awesome pet if you have the time to dedicate to it, as they are naturally inquisitive, friendly and companionable. You might also want to check in on the laws in your area, as some parts of the world restrict ownership of ferrets. Also they are quite prone to disease and often live short lives (average 4-7 years, can live as long as 12-14) just be aware of that and when he/she gets older I'd start giving annual checkups so any issues can be dealt with.

As someone with two ferrets, it is absolutely impossible to walk a ferret any meaningful distance. Ferrets are just too fascinated with random objects that you'll spend more time being led around your drive-way than actually walking any distance.

You also don't need to walk ferrets really. Just let them run around the house and that's usually good enough if you have two ferrets. It's helpful if you actually play with them though.

My cat used to like to follow me around. I even carried her places on the street. Was pretty nice.

Dude, get one. Ferrets are awesome. My friend has 3 of them. The only downside to them is that they make your house smell bad. That's what everybody I know with a ferret said anyway.
