Atheist dating a Christian...or not

So this girl I have been talking to off and on for the past few months recently began shunning me after a series of texts we sent to one another. We never really tried going steady because we were both more focused on our school work; however, we did go to prom together. After graduation I thought we could actually try dating over the summer and see where things take us as we move on to college.

We text each other everyday for about two weeks and she came by my house for a while and we talked, things seemed to be going just fine. I even asked her out on a date where I'd cover everything and she agreed. The other day I find out that she was involved with a bunch charities and volunteer work. I always liked how nice and caring she was and that's when it occurred to me that she was somewhat of a saint. I then steered the conversation into religion and asked her how she felt about other religions; she responded by saying she doesn't like talking about other religion. We went off on a tangent about spelling bees on ESPN and after a while I bring up Atheism and her opinions on Atheists; she responds by saying she wouldn't judge them as long as they wouldn't judge her, but she says she never met one before.

I am an Atheist.

I knew it wouldn't be right for me to lie to her so I told her the truth about me; she didn't text me back for the rest of the night nor did I text her. The next day I send her a text apologizing for upsetting her and for not trying to follow up sooner. I even tried calling to speak with her directly, but she didn't respond. I have always been a calm and rational person but when she rejected me like that I nearly lost my mind. I ended up calling another girl who I don't care for and we start "sexting" each other. I'm not the type to just do things like that but the girl had gotten me into it. It did make me feel better.

When the Christian girl rejected me because of my Atheism I actually tried praying to God so that he could make me believe in him so the girl would talk to me again. I haven't tried praying since I walked away from religion years ago. One good thing about the incident is that I have never told anyone I cared about that I am an Atheist. I didn't receive the response I had hoped for but I was at least honest with her and with myself.

What are your views on the story you've just read?

Yes, I did want her to know that I was an Atheist, things would have ended even worse if we dated longer and she found out from one of my friends.

If she can't accept you, for what you believe in, she is not worth your time, in the slightest, and I recommend you tell her to go and fuck herself. I was with a religious girl for a few years (it was both my greatest, worst, and longest relationship), and she was totally cool with what I believed in, and I was totally cool with what she believed in, hence why it worked, although we eventually drifted apart, for unrelated reasons.

All round, I stick to what I said at first, you should feel bad with yourself for sucking Gods dick, when you don't even believe he/she/it exists, going against what you truly believe in is just sad, especially when you do so for someone else.

I assume this must be an american thing or something, I've never had anyone give a shit about me being atheist or anyone else's beliefs. If she really cared about you I don't think she'd make such a big deal out of this. She might be a bit turned off if she believes that strongly, sure, but she wouldn't just cut you off completely.

My suggestion would be to not sit around pondering this concubine and get out there and make yourself available, so you can move on.

I guess it's just all about communication. I've met some really wonderful people with really awful communication skills, and no matter how nice they are they'll put you through hell. People are stupid. Also, christianity tells people to put god before everything.

That means that my own mother loves some invisible dude in the sky more than me her own son. It also meant this chick loved some invisible dude more than me.

I try to be humble and courteous but there comes a point where pride has to take the helm and you need to realize that your life is too short to spend on someone who loves something unreal more than the person who is supposed to be the light of their life.

this times a hundred thousand -- if you're an atheist and you're going against your beliefs then you should wonder if a) you're really an atheist at all, and b) if it's really worth it. I mean, if a person is intolerant towards your religion (or lack thereof) then would you like that person, and the chance of anything else popping up?
