I try. Like I start nice and gentle, but I soon drag myself into old habits. My last girlfriend refused to suck me off unless I was able to keep my hands off of her head...

I would hate not being able to hold my partner's head as he sucked me off. My hands do naturally trail there to hold it, and I love the supporting feeling of the hands guiding my actions. But yea, it is always nice to have a mixture of soft and hard oral, as well as letting them do the work of sucking and you humping their mouth. As much as I love giving head I will admit to not being comfortable having my partner being hard and rough all the time as well, sometimes for sure, but I prefer it soft and gentle most of the time.

Yeah, I do really like soft and gentle head, but I have this almost Pavlovian response to just wanting to stick myself in deeper than really necessary. It's a habit I'd love to work on breaking, but not having a regular partner does make it difficult.

I can fully understand that, despite loving the gentle stuff the most myself once I get into it then it is really easy to get carried away, which is highly enjoyable of course! But can also be a little too much at times hehe.

Sadly it's a catch 22 problem that you can be too rough with those you sleep with so they won't stay with you for long enough to get used to doing it :(

It helps to make it never get boring, knowing some days it will end up being a lot more rough than normal hehe.

And oddly enough, the relationship broke up more due to the fact that she got offered a better job closer to her family, and we realised that we weren't really close enough to warrant keeping things going.

I didn't think it would have broken up just due to your going in strong :p But yea it is always sad when it ends up its great that it left on a more positive note rather than some bad thing.
