Poniiboi is starting an ad hominem with everyone. This proves a rapper can't argue for shit.

True I agree Dorner was the bad cancer of LAPD treatment, but at least for fuck sake, he was toasted; leave the story be where it belongs.

Nothing about your source proves that Democide is the number one killer of people. In fact all it says is that some guy believes more people died during WWII as a result of goverment actions than previously stated.

Last I checked, WWII was well over 6 decades ago.

You're criticizing people for their English when it's quite clearly not their native language and calling them retards but you can't even spell faggot right.

I can't even believe you would call that claim wild!! Oh my God you and everyone like you is completely retarded!!

The source you provided said in the 20th century. Many things happened during this period. New medicine arose eliminating many causes of death, new agricultural techniques lowered famine as a leading cause of death in many places. Countries were modernizing and creating more modern forms of sanitation worldwide. At the same time totalitarian dictatorships arose which performed genocide, which is what the guy you're referring to is talking about (not that this is an indisputable fact, it's only one guy who said that). So he's talking about the Holocaust, the Purges in Communist states along with other genocides. He's not talking about the government mistaking random people for wanted murderers and killing them.

At 5/21/13 07:28 PM, Warforger wrote: No you are clearly twisting your own words to have a different meaning in order to dodge the charge. You said he wasn't a terrorist and a citizen, which if what you're saying is true and this is what you meant then your comment made no sense since I was under the impression you could be a terrorist and a citizen at the same time. Otherwise the implication from your comment is that you think he is a model citizen. So you merely are bad at constructing sentences, not me at interpreting them.

Okay, here's the problem. Poniiboi uses too much ad-hominen, which if his arguments make sense, the ad-hominen makes it look like it doesn't. Second problem is: people are pretending they can't understand Poniiboi and are filling in a ton of blanks and presumptions about him to make him out to be someone he's not. Warforger's previous post before the one I quoted above was brimming chock-full with presumptions, so when Poniiboi addressed them, the response consisted of people pretending - once again - that Poniiboi talked about something he did not.
Quote

you spout the same old crap as if repeating it makes it more true.

and quote

You're simply repeating the same lies and insults repeatedly, never mind that everything you have said have either been debunked, or simply full of bullshit to actually be believed.

But was he actually spouting the "same old crap" (not my words)? Or was he addressing the relatively new presumptions? (It's like people don't actually read what he says now.) Like the Warforger quote above, people are too apt to create presumptions about him and then blame him for them. Like when someone wants someone else to be wrong, they have to force them to be wrong. And I know what's going to happen if I bring up new points, it's going to be a character battle because that's mostly what page 3 is.

You can't know what you don't know if you can only use yourself as a reference point.

That is not the case at all. There are ways things devolve into character battles. You can make lots of assertions and then respond to anyone who disagrees by insulting them. You can make lots of assertions and respond to anyone who comments stating that they're part of "the man" and don't get it, regardless of the points. Finally, you can resort to character battles first thus elicitng such a response. Poniboii has done all three, as well have some other posters on this forum.

Now doing just a couple of those at one time won;t usually drive an entire thread into a character battle. People will shrug it off any more forward. However, if you have built a reputation of doing this consistently, like Poniboii has, people are far more willing to delve into character battles as they know you will not try to listen.

So, if you have points to respond to here, do so, but please, for everyone's sake, do so calmly and properly and you will avoid the character battles (with all except those select few who like to start them, like poniboii).

Ad hominem is getting old.

Like I said, start a good argument and we'll see how you pass the lowest IQ requirement to start a debate.

This entire thread is making me really, really sad so I'd just like to step in as a neutral third party spectator in a futile attempt restore some order to the thread.

It is my sincere hope that as member of NG we can strive toward the top rung.

In our effort to create a better discussion it is always a good idea to start by defining both your stance and relevant ideas. This helps stop a discussion from reaching both unintentional and intentional strawmen. Identify who has the burden of proof and stick to it as well.

Please refrain from all ad hominem. Even if you have concluded ideas about a person's character, if their character is not the subject, then it does not add toward the central point. It is generally excepted that this behavior makes people feel disrespected.

Argumentum ad logicam seems to be deadly here as well. Please refrain from saying things such as "James said that oranges exist and then called me a nagger. I think oranges do not exist. I will now ignore and/or claim false James' entire argument because he committed a logical fallacy." This is not refuting the central point of an argument. This is almost as bad as ad hominem.

There are other things to avoid, such as overwhelming confirmation bias, obfuscation, and argumentum ad ignorantiam, and if you'd like to learn a little more about structured argumentation go for it.

Thanks for reading, and I hope it helps.

Honestly, people just come on Politics to argue about anything.
I don't believe one person's opinion here has ever been changed on any subject.

Actually most people don't read the fine print and the scum suckers that prey on said people know this. It's called predatory Capitalism and it's not alright.

fine print is there for a reason, if you don't read the T&Cs then it's still your fault because you are, in essence, signing a legal contract. you wouldn't sign an IRL legal contract without first reading it carefully, would you?
predatory capitalism is when there is no warning of it- the T&Cs do provide a warning, but the ownus is on the user to read it before ticking that little box that says "i have read the terms and conditions, and i fully agree to abide by them".

and reading through them again, they are far from confusingly worded, in fact they are crystal clear to anyone who bothers to read them. your excuse would not hold up in any sensible court of law since, as i said, you are supposed to read a contract before signing it.

Again most people cant afford a lawyer and the time to read and interpret the "Fine Print" in any meaningful way so again you just reinforced how corrupt the system is. To an educated Lawyer the fine print is understandable but to an everyday person the fine print is just psychobabble corporate jargon with so much hidden meaning that it's not even comprehendable in the language it was written in.

I'd go as far as to say that most logical people will change their opinions every once in a while when presented with better information or a new perspective. Why wouldn't that happen?

That war is hardly religious. It is set up so that governments can have an excuse to spread war around the Middle East and keep the money flowing.

B-B-B-But Haliburton made moneyz!

Drop in the bucket for Haliburton. The company I used to work for did some contract shipping for Haliburton, and guess what? Not only did it have nothing to with war or rebuilding, it had nothing to do with the Middle East at all. In short Haliburton is so big even getting friendly perks from governments is not much of a benefit to it.

I spit on every Halliburton truck I see. Good thing for Halliburton I don't live in the Middle East otherwise allot of their trucks and property would have been blown up.
