Well the songs have to be mainly inspired by the art piece. Gah i know i didnt put no covers or remixes, but it does say the inspiration mainly comes from the art piece, so that says enough I'd think lol. Hopefully Rucklo will be somewhere in sight of this contest if he chooses to join though :)

Alright, I got permission from one artist for a piece I really like but I figure I'll give a shot at Rucklo's Mudkip drawing as well for teh lulz.

God I hope that gay wad gets back to me :p

I also really loved this one piece by Tyra White... I think we should be allowed to mutually do same artists if a piece of theirs is loved well enough. If we're allowed to do multiple submissions then I just cock blocked everyone from three potentially awesome peeps. As for the image I already got permission for, the piece is called "Frostbite." It's gonna be a song about some really cold bitch that sits around in ice water and what not. Expect it to be some sort of minimal ambient glitch track. Given this artists choice of textures and temperatures, I think I'll have fun getting creative with it. Should be interesting. I haven't written anything minimalist in a loooong time.

I haven't seen anyone ask this yet, but forgive me if they have. If we PM an artist that either has gone inactive or does not respond, can we still use their piece? Is there some kind of other validation process? Since art on the Art Portal works kind of like the Audio Portal (you can use the pieces on NG as long as you credit the artist in the submission), could we simply credit them that way? Or would we need to get some other approval?

Just wondering.

Progress: Lyrics have been written. Provisory tune being written in my head, I may want to put this down in OneNote later. Trying to decide on instrumental parts, and I don't want this to sound like a replica of my Sleep Wrapped in Love cover, since I have a tender song in mind.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but people can still use your works without your permission. Technically can even do so if you explicitly tell them not to (although hopefully people would have enough respect not to do so). The creative commons only really says 1. They can't claim it as their own and have to give you credit when it's used (regardless of permission) 2. They can't make money from it (unless they have your permission to do so), and 3. They can change it however they want (again, regardless of permission), but if they do so they can only distribute it under another Creative Commons license (this prevents people from making some change - big or small - and then copyrighting the result as their own).

Anyway, not trying to be a dick just acknowledging a technicality - anyone in this contest can actually use artwork without needing the artist's permission if they choose (although I would advise against it if they tell you not to, because seriously don't be a douche-bag. Personally I would give them a heads up when you use it anyway because it's always nice to know people like your stuff and want to use it).

Also to expand on point 3: they actually can copyright it under a different licence but only with your permission.

But anyway, this is probably not going to even be an issue. Good luck to everyone in the contest, can't wait to hear all the great entries by talented artists!
