Agreed. In recent history, I was looking over the posts of a "Sweden Enthusiast" who, on SEVERAL occasions, told flash artists that they "sucked" in the review. In fact, I think the ratio of Acceptable Posts to Inappropriate Posts was 1 : 23. He had no registered emailing address, so I couldn't flame... err... remind him of his failure to meet the guidelines for posting reviews. He even made the entirely incorrect statement that all Americans must have just 2 I.Q. points to their names, and "so emm you suxx...". Given the evidence, I'd say he's a prime example of a Danny Dumbass, postingwise.

If your reviews are anything like that that post, it shouldn't be too hard to work out.

I personally grow disgusted at other sites being advertised on reviews. I never bother to visit them since I think you guys rule. They always say something like this in the title like... That was great... Then they continue something like... But I saw a better version at so and so's website.
I'm not too sure on what to do about it. I'm not sure how you guys go about banning, but if I were running it, I would say Zero Tolerance. It's like putting Joe Camel cigarette advertisements in a preschool or something like that. That's my point of view anyway, hopefully it has some influence on what will be done around here about the Review Bans. This is my first day really posting on the message boards, so I guess I'll see you around.

I went on a small crusade in today, and I marked about 5 reviews for the movie Smile. Most of which said, "That movie was gay," and "You are a goth wannabe."
Eh, the what does the whistle do to affect your standings?

The FAQ is very clear about what to do about it.
"Do not use the review space for the purpose of promoting things. Stick to reviewing the movies - we don't want to hear about how great your website is. Also posting links to websites that reward you for sending hits is prohibited. We will delete your account for these offenses on the first offense with no warning! Posting unrelated links is also prohibited and will result in a ban!"
Any review that advertises another website is abusive and therefore should be marked as such. Zero Tolerance IS the current policy.

I don't post often on the forums, but here goes:
My two cents is that it isn't difficult to write a helpful review. I mean, we all get lazy sometimes and write a bad one, I've written my fair share back in the days when I was too young to know any better. But really, it isn't that hard to put 60-odd seconds into a review so that instead of "THIS MOV1E W4S GHEYXORS LOL!!L1" you have something constructive written. I know that when I make something, I want people to point out constructive things, and if there's something good, point that out too. If there's obviously been no time spent on the movie, that's different, of course.
Secondly, it isn't hard to follow the rules. I remember a post somewhere on this topic saying that the rules are too long, like a page or so. I can't even remember what the rules are, or what they look like. I don't have that kind of clinical memory. That's where common sense comes into practice. It's obvious that you shouldn't spam forums to get your postcount up. It's obvious that advertising something in your review defeats the purpose of reviewing in the first place. If you have trouble understanding why this is, how are you even able to use a PC in the first place?
I've also found that if a review overly uses abbreviations of words like "you" or uses the wrong usage of their / there / they're I'll skip over it entirely. That may sound elitist, but it's quite simple: if you completly fuck up your grammar, people have trouble reading your review / post, and most often won't even bother. If I have to squint and try really hard to read a review, then it's not worth the trouble.

Even though most people are reviewing fairly still. I have seen many people posting offending or malicious reviews. Due to the fact that I love this site, and it's wellbeing is actually important to me, I think we should all check over what other people have posted as their review. It would make alot of flash artists happier, and maybe even increase the amount of works that are posted. You nevre know,

If they did that, it would take more resources and more server space that is wasted on spam.

i may not be a frequent poster, blammer, etc, but that doesnt mean i'm a n00b... i've been a fan of NG since before it even HAD a portal... :P
i just choose to be a lurker for the most part... ^_^
you could even ask Shok (FDA), i doubt he'd make me a mod on his site (SillyGoth) if he thought i was the least bit n00bish ;P
so judging someone by where they are, as far as knowing something about the site, based on their stats is childish :\

Did you even read my post? Freedom to free speech does not trump freedom of private property. Do I have the right to get a bullhorn and have make a speech in your house? No. Likewise, you don't have the right to piss in Newgrounds. You don't own the webspace.

Well, did you blow the whistle, in case you've seen it when it's under judgement?
I think the best solution of meeting such obscene movie is E-mailing Wade for this. If so much people did so, the offender can be banned in no time.

I never play by the NG rules. I always go on NG while I'm naked and wack it deep and hard to Wade's pic. That is one of the rules of NG, isn't it?

If someone is just that oblivious to their low ability with flash, and saying that it is good, then i feel now is the time to set them straight. If that means telling them that they should stop trying or saying that they are an idiot, then we should have the right. I do, however, agree that people should not be posting links to outwar or other sites. Someone has to be really dumb to fall for one of those "Go to www.outwar.com/no-one-is-that-stupid.html for the entire thing." The outwar will kind of tell you that it is not what they tell you. We should still have the right to say what we want. I really do not think that someone will put a lawsuit on someone if they were called an idiot. It just won't happen. Just look around you, links to porn everywhere, Dress-up games, and Dating-sims! And here we are geting banned from Newgrounds for puting something in a review that offends the artist! Well this is where we live. In america!

You know what Suicidal. Even though I understand some people send in horrible crap their are those who really want to contribute and struggle you put them down they might not come back and you'll never see what they can acomplish. The worst thing you can do to a Flash animator is tell them to stop trying. Persistence is the best tool to make it in the Portal. If an author actually listen to someone saying there stuff was crap there would be like 5 Flash cartoons on Newgrounds. Put stuff out and you'll understand.

These statements about free speech and having the right to criticize others is fine and everything when it comes to other situations in America. But making claims about it here is a bunch of fucking bullshit.
You don't have a "right" to do anything here on Newgrounds. You have a free account and you're not entitled to anything, except enoying its contents. The owners of Newgrounds have dumped serious time and money into running this site...they can ban whoever the fuck they want if they feel it's appropriate.
The extensive rules are set up to hopefully create a positive environment for people to help others create better Flash and show others. Play nice and obey the rules and you should be fine. Telling people they should quit trying to create Flash projects is useless and abusive. Why is this so hard for certain members to understand?
