With all the budget problems were hear about the schools it just doesn't seem logical that they'd stock their computer labs with Macs instead of something cheaper. Or does Apple give them a large discount?

Because kids think they are the fastest because they see them on the TV the most.
i think you get a better discount if you say you're buying them for your school than the other companies.
just gonna throw that out there
Because it is hipster! But seriously, in some cases, especially with grants, you can only spend the money you receive on certain things. Such as the local boys and girls club here is restricted to using their grants and donations towards purchasing equipment and expanding their facilities. Although wasteful spending is a problem, especially at the college level, the schools can only spend money on certain items. Which 1) is stupid that such rules and regs exist and 2) is greedy because if the money isn't needed they should turn it down so maybe as school that is less fortunate could receive a grant or what have you for a change.

I would agree with this.
My college had both, the Macs are open to the public, but you have to have a student ID# to operate all the PC's or you can't even log on
Are you not Entertained ?!?
Macs are from Athens, Windows are from Sodom.
Macs are easier to use, especially for old people.

Students use PC's at my school. Every single teacher is given a Mac
Because iMac G3s are the shit. At least my grammar school thought that.
Here in college, they use mac workstations cuz they work better/smoother with Adobe's CS. But then there's a PC to use with the plotter for whatever reason.
I had PCs in my high school before I graduated.
I think they were slowly phasing in Macs, though. Sigh.
I think it's to do with buying them in bulk and getting a discount, and then not having to worry about all the different specs and hardware.
I would be happy about a school investing in it's students rather than squandering tuition funds.
My college allows both Mac and Windows.
The Macs are used considerably less and there are less of them as a result.
My high schools preferred PC's, I think only my middle school had a mac.

In the entire time I was ever in school only one room ever had a single Mac in it.
All of the other rooms that had computers in them had PCs.
It's for the parents. Shinny-er computers means more enrollments.
When I went to school in California, the computers were Macs.
When I went to school in Washington, the computers were PCs.
Incidentally both Apple and Microsoft were headquartered nearby.
So really, a school (read: board of education) bases the kind of computers it has on what deal they cut with what company for how much shiny newness, that doesn't actually improve education for the children but makes the schools (read: board of education) look good.

Yeah, but I missed your post whilst trying to write my own. I have a habit of doing that.
All my grade schools had macs:
First elementary school: Oldschool color monitor comps with the old rainbow Apple logo.
Second school: Macintosh Classics with monochrome screens.
Third school: A mix of monochrome Classics and Color Classics.
High school: Color Classics, Power Macs and iMacs.
Though my high school did also have 486 and Pentium PCs.
A truly prophetic sig...
They're so pretty and they get next to no viruses/spyware. They are also a beautiful looking operating system.
Because Mac Hardware is developed with Mac software so knowing when they're obsolete is a sure thing. Also because of this kids won't install things on the computers, when I was in high school every computer I ever touched had counterstrike and battlefield 2 on it.

What kind of fuckery is this ?

Art school loves their macs. Every art college I've checked out is full of them. They say art software works better on them or something, but I used the same types of programs on a dell and it worked perfectly fine so I don't know what the reason is aside from this uniform sleek, white, and round design making them look high tech and professional to the general public.
My school has all Windows computers, I'd be upset if they replaced them all with Macs
I asked my teacher in HS why we always got macs and he told me it was because they give schools a discount.
Two years ago my school had windows xp.
I'm pretty sure they still have the same machines now and installed 7.
