Proper Layer order

I tried finding a solution through the search bar but nothing helpful came up. Regardless, this is a total noob question that I have been racking my head over for the past 2 hours trying to figure out.
How does one go about placing the order like in this picture?

Now, building this from the ground up I imagine the torso(3) is at the bottom.
Then the table(4) is above it.
And then you have the left hand (2 green).
What I can't figure out is how can the right hand(1 pink) be under the torso and above the table at the same time?

Have the table on the bottom layer. Use masking on the body.

The green field is an example of what the mask would look like. Layers numbered by your example.
