3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsSo my local WB 33 broadcasting network has been putting on the Simpsons at 6:00 every weeknight for a couple years now and they've started airing the first couple of seasons from way the fuck back in 1990 and 1995 with a few mismatched episodes from 97, 91 and such and they've been doing this since a few months back. Well since then I've been recording and watching each one because I was deprived of these episodes most of my life, being forced to deal with the more recent 07-now episodes on FOX (which are still pretty good but definitely not the same)
I must say some their best episodes are from the 90's and for those who have been able to watch them I'm sure that's a "no shit" statement right there. Some differences to note are just how the characters act, for instance, Homer is a lot more angry rather than dopey, he gets pissed fast and Bart is more mischievous than doing bad things for the sake of them being bad. But the biggest thing is when the episode reaches the moral climax and the moral that Groening is trying to express definitely reaches across. It's way more serious in the 90's episodes, no jokes, no slapstick, straight up: this is the moral dilemma, this is how they got through it. It gets pretty intense sometimes, even tugs an emotional line with me, like when Bart or Lisa cries in a serious manner. Much more different than the hardcore satire of today's Simpsons and other animated families, back then it was more like 2 parts moral story 1 part American satire.
What were some of your favorite Episodes from the 90's?
Even as I walk through the shadow of the Valley of Death, I shall fear no Evil. Semper Fidelis
Bart Gets an F was probably one of my favorites, because I think we've all been at that point. When you're trying as hard as you can but you still fail. The cold, hard facts of life.

Oh shit I remember that one, it just came on a few weeks ago, God when Bart was just sitting there in total despair despite trying so hard, ouch that hurt right in the chest. Although, I can't believe 60 was passing back then, man and people say our standards too low now a days.

Do you get all your opinions from the Nostalgia Critic?
Lisa the Vegetarian, Marge goes to Prison, the one where bart shoplifts, the one when homer eats the chili pepper, and many more I can't think of at the moment

Bart Gets an F was the first Simpsons episode I ever saw.
The older Treehouse of Horror episodes are the fucking shit.

What is with your boner for hating him?
Wow, the old episodes are amazing. In New Zealand they replay a lot of the old episodes on tv as well as the new ones.

No, almost everyone agrees

Away with your obsession on TNC. Everyone likes this episode.
The Simpsons used to be great. I'd say they started to lose it around 2003 or so.

I honestly don't think I could name any favorite episodes.
There are too many to list.
I love this episode and the Frank Grimes episode. It was crazy seeing a new character just voluntarily kill himself.

Yeah the episodes today are way more throw-away.
Just gag after gag fabricated around some dilemma you don't give a shit about and one or two guest appearances clumsily shoe-horned in there. The lady Gaga one was especially terrible.
But honestly, they've covered almost everything they could. Marge and Homer have almost divorced like 20 times by now. Bart has failed at school in every possible way that you can and Lisa has had like 10 inspiring role models leave her.
It definitely added to the show when it was less funny. People don't get full on just jokes. Look at the best movie of all time, almost none of them are comedies. There's a very low ceiling to how much you can reach people with just humor...
My favorite episode has got to be "Lisa's Substitute".
This is probably the best time to state that my Flash Game that I made has 2,880,000 results when searched on Google with Quotes
Pretty Awesome! :)
fuck, nostalgia
I wish the simpsons was good again
I don't like the animation now that it went HD.
Same thing with Family Guy. When the animation looks too slick and polished, it loses charm with me.
I like the cruder way the show was animated in the 90's.

60 IS passing in the US. That's not going to change any time soon.

Cape Feare has to be one of my all time favourites, along with Last Exit to Springfield, Marge Vs the Monorail, Stark Raving Dad and Radioactive Man, El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer and a Streecar named Marge. There are more but I couldn't name all of them. Anything after season 9 is when it went downhill in mine and fair few others' opinions. It needs to end really, it should have ended about 7-8 years ago before it just became tired and overworked, like an ageing Bangkok whore.
Let me kill your thread for you, it wasn't all that interesting anyway.

Oh my God I remember that episode, holy balls who did that not give nightmares to or at least chills. I seriously could not be in the room alone watching that episode. The creepy as way he talked and the music, fuck that music. *shudders*
great now to scour Youtube looking for it.

I like the episode where Bart ends up with French people.
I have never and will never like the Simpsons.
There. I said it. I await my death.
