The FCC is looking for comments on whether it should loosen its restrictions on non sexual nudity and certain instances of profanity on TV.

Apparently they want to loosen them because they're getting so much spam complaints from busybodies that they have a massive backlog and want to loosen restrictions so that they can dismiss most of them.

Now obviously said busybodies are busy spamming them saying no, and it's hard to tell if they're using a bot or gaming the system.

In either case, the FCC should really remove all profanity restrictions on TV IMO.

It would be good if they loosened their restrictions especially on curse words.

Beeps in tv shows are annoying.

But in sufficient number they are 1000 times funnier than any cuss word could ever be.

My opinion of this is that it's a distraction. There are plenty of other things the FCC could be doing with its time, perhaps most notably re-establishing rules of fairness in journalism (a discussion for another thread). Really, what changes would be brought about from the FCC addressing this? A couple episodes of Game of Thrones being rated TV-14 instead of TV-MA? Midday soap operas being even more trashy than they already are? And would it do anything to improve the programming on the Syfy channel?

If you're going to overhaul the ratings system, do it in a way that's useful and guaranteed to last. Instead of just slapping a recommended minimum age in the corner, tell audiences what to expect in plain terms, and let them make their own informed decision from there. And if One Million Moms wants to complain that their children are being exposed to smut and morally reprehensible behavior, then maybe they should take more personal responsibility in parenting their children and keep them away from the TV.

In other words, it should be up to the locals on how they want to watch TV, it shouldn't be up to the FCC to do the restrictions for the locals, further more what the FCC should only do is focus more on content ratings in the very similar way Indie games dose.

In fact, all the entertainment ratings should focus on content ratings in the similar way Indie Games dose it, the age ratings just won't work because some under such ages will still end up seeing such stuff on TV, more or less matters not, the only thing that matters so is that such people need to learn the common sense of things and the responsibility of determining of "what's reality and what's fantasy", otherwise people will start whacking things out of proportion just not meant to be whacked out of proportion to begin with.

That said, if Knowledge comes with Power then it's Sense that comes with Responsibility.
