What does it mean when somebody wears a hat? Is it a symbol of something?
I mean like beyond just shielding the eyes from sun and rain, is there a more subliminal meaning to it?
What is a person wearing it trying to express? And what if he puts on a hat does it mid-sentence?
I need to know.
And also, what is your favorite kind of hat? Mine is probably the fedora (picture below).

In some case it is meant to be protective, like cowboy hats are designed shield your face from the sun.
Otherwise it just looks good I guess. But I can't for love of me figure out why god wanted the Jews to wear a silly little hat every time they goes to the synagogue to then later tell the Christians to piss of with the hats and then even later tell Muslims they better start wearing silly hats again.

everything you do and wear is symbol of something. no one does or wear things just because.
so you shouldnt be surprised that if you dress like a hobo, people will think you are one, or if you have tatoos, people will think you are a punk.
to resume, depends on the hat and where you are at. a classic hat in the old times meant social status, a fedora that you are a hipster, etc, etc.
Its only rape if you say no.
Say no to rape.

I don't wear hats often but one thing I know for sure is that I've never seen anyone in modern day wearing a fedora or trilby who wasn't gross

I used to wear fitted ball caps because the pressure on my dome felt good. It made me feel as though I was a ninja, with every muscle, even my fricking skull, primed and ready to kill the whole world like it deserved. Now I wear knitted caps because my headphones don't fit so good, and it is cold in the basement.
I also thought I looked better with one on, because you know, it was hiding some of my ugly.

I started wearing them after I got this really crazy mohawk/mullet haircut - after a while, I got rid of the mohawk and decided it was time to let my hair grow back (not to the original length though); I'm not one of those people who looks great with short hair, so the cap was to cover that. Now it's just what I normally wear.
Also, baseball caps > fedoras

I completely disagree. I know plenty of people who look snazzy in assorted head wear. To think you can dictate what hats look good on everyone is just fucking asinine.

I never thought there was any meaning to wearing a hat, other than looking good or, like you said, shielding your eyes and head from the sun and rain.

Hats are a sign of having a bad haircut, and fedoras are a sign of having a neckbeard.

Haha, fedoras.
It seems there's a whole half of the Internet that supports fedoras and another half that wants all fedoras burned.
I never wear hats. I have long hair, so hats would look dumb on me.

I wear beanies because I don't like looking at my short hair after a haircut and because it looks kind of cool to me. It makes me feel stylish in a way.

Read this whole thread, and no one got it.
Hats were an expression of economic, occupational, regional and marital status. At once glance, you could tell nationality or even what part of the country a person came from, and.. the other things I just mentioned. Plus there wasn't much to do inside except eat, sleep and fuck... so hats off inside! No sun, rain or blowing dust in the house, or need to publicly ID yourself. Uncovered hair on dirty (any) streets was a big no-no. It kept the animal stink out too.
Hats were the things you put on when you went out... like a status icon nowadays; day off hat, work hat, sunday church hat, office hat, banker hat, etc. It's been a civilizing device, in countless centuries past.
It was also an equalizer (for men) - bald, hairy, freaky, didn't matter, it was covered up, so we had an equal chance at attractiveness. Men took them off to ladies, to show them the quality/honesty of their hair, and for respect, yo. Older men were preferred by women and employers, for their experience, since the mortality rate was kinda shitty, so baldness wasn't necessarily a bad thing anyway.
Okay I'm done
