"Passed Away"

I've always hated that saying. You mean he died? Sure "passed away" sounds less harsh and you can argue more respectful, but it's not like he cares.

Kinda sucks though, I've read his reviews.

Hmm, I've personally never read a movie review. With movies I generally know if I want to watch a movie or not. (And what level of cheesy I might need to deal with)

Nice. I generally just watch movies and decide whether they are bad or good afterwards (I can confront watching bad movies usually.) I just read reviews to get someone elses opinion on it.

Tragic. I loved reading his reviews and takes on films. His "At The Movies" TV show was pretty entertaining, too. It's sad to see him go.

While I may see less movies I don't enjoy, your system allows you to see more movies you'd never watch using mine. I could do myself some good stepping out of my comfort zone with this stuff.

Didn't agree with all his opinions, but he was always a good read and he made talking about movies -- about movies in general, the making of movies, opinions about movies -- cool and stuff.

R.I.P. famous guy.

I haven't seen it so I won't judge. But the mans hate on for critics is no secret.

Back on the topic I diverged from. Ebert always explained movies in accessable terms and fostered a real love for film. The world is poorer without him.

Hey trolls, did you know a bunch of people who weren't famous died today also? You might want to make people aware of that.

I read Ebert's last blog post this morning while at work, where he mainly talked about how his cancer had returned. As a result, he planned on slowing down and only reviewing movies that he wanted to see, while his other hand-picked critics took on everything else. It was a "leave of presence" that never really got to happen...for long.

He had a infectious and genuine love for movies in general, except when they sucked in his point of view. All my life, since I was a little kid, he was the only professional movie critic whose opinions I took seriously. I disagreed with many of his film assessments (I remember how surprised I was when he gave Gladiator a thumbs down almost 13 years ago) while also agreeing with many others. His writing was very clear, thoughtful and engaging, and I could always see where he was coming from. I also read his blog and tweets regularly. So yeah...although I knew this day would come, I was hoping it wouldn't be this soon.

we still have james berardinelli, who's pretty like him and just as good at reviewing movies.

still one of my favourite movie critics though. without him, movie reviews wouldnt've been as good.

also i guess they'll be repressing his books now, might pick one up.

I was pretty ambivalent towards Ebert for most of his life, but what little opinion I had of him soured tremendously when he made his insensitive tweet about Ryan Dunn's death.

I'm not going to shed any tears.

Well it's not like I had any sympathy for Ryan Dunn either, but I wouldn't have shed a tear for Ebert anyway.

I can't remember why but for the longest time I've disliked Roger Ebert.

rip (I guess??)
