I'm also a fan of the show. I'm actually hoping it gets a second season; I'd like to jump forward a couple centuries and see Leif Eriksson discover North America.

To an extent, yes; it is a docu-drama, not a proper documentary, and there are a number of inaccuracies. But frankly, correcting some of those details would have made for a very boring story.
