(Lingo) Old swedish game refine. 2013-03-30 07:13:52 Reply

A company in Sweden had an online game called "Blipville" (search on google) somewhat reminiscent of habbo hotel.
They put down the game in 2011 and many people were disappointed and sad.

I wrote to the company 3 days ago and asked if I could buy the game because it just lying around.
Here's how they answered "The code is too old and dusty, no one has any joy out of stuff. Sorry ..."
I called them up and said I would be glad if I could buy the game.

They explained to me that the code is written in an old programming language called lingo and it is not used today.
They also said that they used an old linux server so it would be easier to make your own game similar to it.

Now to my question:

Is there anyone here who think they can fix it? I will pay good!

good luck finding a lingo programmer!

I think the scale of your project even if it was in the language im use to might be over my head. Looking at the game and what it entitles. The server and networking problems i would run into would make my head spin XD.

Best of luck to your journey to find a programmer i hope you get your game :).

Thank you! :). Sulake converted their game Habbo hotel from lingo to javascript, so someone must be available to do it for money :). I'll update how things are going :)

The thing is. Sulake is the one who programmed their game habbo hotel. So if you program it yourself. Converting it to another language isn't so bad.

But asking a random programmer who didn't create a lingo developed game to go through 30,000 lines of code. Then translate all the code into another language (that may or may not be capable of being translated). Is a pretty big task.

But if you have money. That's all that matters. I am certain if you have enough money anyone who is capable of doing that and recreating your game into javascript will do it even if it means they have to learn lingo in the process.

It's just a matter of finding that developer who is capable of such a large scale task.

Honestly. I think you should just buy yourself a dev team that is good at actionscript 3. then have them recreate the game you want.

It'll be cheaper, and you'll get a better product.

Hmm .. It sounds interesting. There may be people here who are interested in creating such a game :)

Go to a professional game dev site. Pitch your proposal with a budget range your wiling to spend.

People will come flocking who are highly qualified for the job.

I am certain people on newgrounds are qualified too. But you are more than likely to get more serious responses on a professional site, also you are more likely to find people who will take your project seriously.

While here, you might find people who are passionate about development and will put more work into the project in comparison to professionals who will treat it like buisness.

While here you might get the same thing as the professionals and even the same quality work.

It's really a toss-up. I am too busy for such a project. Also you should first hire a project manager who understand programming. Have him develop sets of interfaces for the people you hire that force them to program the design you want.

Or you can just hire a dev team to do whatever they wish. But i think the project manager / interface route would be your best option.
