3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsHi, Newgrounds, I've been busy all day, trying to sort out everything, because one of my siblings is dropping by, now, here's the problem I am facing: I got so wrapped up in sorting my shit out, I literally forgot to sleep, I lost track of time, and now it's nearly 07:30am, I've decided that sleeping now is fucking pointless, because they're going to be here by 9 or 10, and I can't just get myself out of bed, answer the door, and be half asleep mid-conversation, plus if I do go to bed now, my sleep pattern is completely fucked, I'm not sure what to do, I've drank a shit load of coffee to try and stay awake, but I doubt I'll last until maybe 3 or 4pm.
Now, this is what I need help with, how can I do the following:
1) Stay awake
2) Not have bloodshot eyes
3) Not be tired
4) Avoid this shit from happening EVER again, I do it way too often without realizing it.
I'd appreciate the help on this, I'm more than sure some of you will have some tried and tested working techniques that help with lack of sleep.

don't worry, we're all nocturnals here
Stay away from caffeine and sugar. People always assume this keeps you awake - it doesn't.
Eat a large, healthy meal (if possible) and listen to some high BPM music.
Amphetamines are the easy solution, however (if you have access to them).
You'll just have to deal with the bloodshot eyes and try to power nap whenever possible.
Good luck.
I do this several times a week.
in all seriousness, go for a jog for about 15 minutes. that might help.
Eat properly and drink water. Don't just sit around and drink coffee, it doesn't help anything.
Stay occupied, don't sit around thinking "I'll just rest here for a moment to refresh myself", it doesn't do anything. You'll crash.
Try to ignore the fact that you're tired and distract yourself from it as much as possible, and deal with the bloodshot eyes.
you'll be fine as long as you are constantly doing things. And make sure those things don't make you too comfortable.
Driving on the other hand probably isn't something you should be doing if you are tired...

I disagree. A few minutes of power napping has the ability to keep you up for several more hours. If you're surrounded by stimulus, that is. Don't try it in a quiet room or anything.
Eat apples, take a fucking cold shower, slap your face around a good couple of times and take a hike around the neighbourhood. If all else fails, tape your eyelids to your eye brows with double-sided tape and try not to hit your face on any surface, as incentive NOT to rest somewhere.
Good luck my friend, you'll need it.
i prescribe you 30mg of mixed amphetamine salts
Everything in this thread is good advice, except whatever yert said.

I'll avoid the caffeine, and sugar, thanks for telling me, I was literally five minutes away from making more coffee, in regards to large healthy meals, I haven't got any food in at the moment, so that's out of the window, sadly. I shall listen to some high BPM music, because let's face it, we all have access to that. Bloodshot eyes, I can live with, and thanks for the pointers, I'll keep these in mind for the future, does drinking a lot of water help at all? Also, I could never do this several times a week nowa' days, I used to a long time ago when I had a friend who lived abroad, it knocked hell out of me for over two years, NEVER EVER AGAIN.
Here's what I am about to listen to in order to keep my brain working: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0PCN3AG5cU

Would if I could, I don't live in the greatest of areas, so I'd not want to risk getting attacked, or mugged, thanks for the pointer though, I assume general exercise is a good thing to keep me awake?

Yeah, took a shower already, actually helped more than I thought it would, as regards to slapping myself, I'd rather not, unless I go into complete fucking shut down mode, thanks for the rather hilarious remark about taping my eyelids to my eyebrows, that gave me a bit of a chuckle.

I'll try to avoid sitting on my ass, in that case, I'm trying to avoid standing still as much as I possibly can, whenever I do my eyelids feel heavier, which is a horrible sign.

Currently drinking a lot of water as it is, so we're all good on that ground, the bloodshot eyes don't bother me all that much, falling asleep on the spot is what I am mainly worried about, I'll make some breakfast ASAP.
Thanks for all of the pointers, folks, any more ideas are welcomed.
As an ex-insomniac, I'm familiar.
Here's some tips:
-Start your day off with a splash of ice-cold water to the face. It's not exactly comfortable but it wakes you up in an instant.
-Eat a proper protein-heavy breakfast. Eggs and sausage 'n shit.
-Caffeine isn't exactly healthy but it'll keep you awake.
-Your body needs water, so drink that shit. Your body needs water, so drink that shit.
-When in doubt, splash more cold water on your face.
-Do some exercises or something to get yourself moving. You'll feel energized when it's over.
Hope this helps. I've endured more sleepless days than I can count.
This is my first time trying to go through a whole night and whole day, I always end up falling asleep on my chair, waking up at 1am, fucking up my sleep schedule.
- Have hot chocolate mixed with two teaspoons of coffee, keeps you good for a while.
- Have a youtube video or something in the background while on the forums
- Put on the light, open up the blinds, light keeps you awake
- When you feel like you're really going to fall asleep "just a little lie down...", get up and jog, get active, forget about sleep, splash your face with water, repeat step 1.
If its only one night youll just feel a bit funny and then youll feel normal by midday. As long as you dont make a habit of it its fine.
I forget to sleep a lot. I'm too busy doing shit on my computer to sleep.

I am confused by what you are talking about, I basically got wrapped up in my schedule, and missed a night of sleep, I can go to bed and sleep in about an hour or two, anyway, so it's all good, if I sleep too early, I'll just further damage my sleeping pattern.

Thanks for the hint, I'll keep all of these in mind if something like this happens again. I'm glad today is done with, been wrecked all day, the worst part is, the person I expected to be visiting ended up cancelling, so I got myself in a tizz over nothing. Damn it!
How many hours have you been awake? Yesterday (and the day before) I was awake more than 32 hours.
Also you should simply apologize for being so tired and sleepy. It's not difficult

Not sure how long, I just know that it's too long. I'm off to bed anyways, goodnight, NG.
I read that music with a high amount of BPM helps you stay awake. I listen to a lot of death metal throught the day.
Also, lots of water, and a big breakfast will help you stay awake.
