Then, if you are supposed to worship him, why do you celebrate him getting nailed to two pieces of wood? Shouldn't it be called Bad Friday or something?

If you ask me it's just another raped, commercialism based, bastardized holiday like most others.

Good Friday is a out the death of Jesus and Easter Sunday is about his resurrection
I don't care about any of it, but I often spend Easter with my father's side of my family (the Predominantly Irish Catholic side). ugh...I always have to hear some stupid political shit in their conversations. I love them, so I never get into politics with them. It's for the best.

Good Friday isn't even remotely commercialized. Easter is, of course.

no one ever stops to think about how painful getting whipped, having thorns driven in your head, forced to carry two trees nailed together all the way through town and up a hill, beaten all the way up, falling a bunch of times, getting spat on by almost everyone in town, getting nailed to a piece of wood naked, getting vinegar sprayed all over you and finally being left to die really is. Even if you are atheist you got to give Jesus some credit. Getting put to death like that for doing nothing wrong isn't easy.

That explains a lot, but I still don't understand why celebrate someone's death by calling it "Good" Friday. Also, what does a giant bunny leaving eggs where kids can find them have to do with the resurrection?
This is why I'm not religious. Too many loopholes and alot of it falls back in on itself. Not to mention the religious zealots you get giving out flyers and shouting at you to "see the light". Eh....I'll stop ranting now.

Its called good Friday because it commemorates Jesus giving his life for us (if your religious that is). It was a Good thing, in his eyes and christian eyes, to do. The Easter bunny and all that colorful stuff commemorates the spring, a season of rebirth and Resurrection and happiness. Just as so many people were happy when Jesus rose from the dead (if you believe).

Assuming this happened, (some argue that Jesus may not have existed and may have been based on several people) I don't see why that means we should worship him as a deity. Many other people throughout history have been horribly tortured to death for no good reason.

Pagan influence + commercialism.

I wasn't being pedantic. You said that Good Friday is commercialized and bastardized.

Ah, I see. Well, that's enough religion for me for this year. Not sorry I came into this thread tho, I learned something. I like to learn something everyday, even if it isn't something I believe in. Thank you and Sense-Offender for explaining things to me.

The only difference between Good Friday and the rest is the word Good in it, which is pretty much a case of a "captain obvious" considering that Fridays are usually considered the best day of the week anyway. As for Easter, I think we all know what it is from a Christian standpoint, but most of us {myself included} treat it as a gathering for family, and an excuse to stuff ourselves with chocolate, which I can't seen any harm in that.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.
