Pc Gamer experts what to update? 2013-03-26 00:01:40

Cpu: Amd Phenom II x4 965 3.4ghz (Can't overclock to 4ghz, gives blue screen when I do that)
GPU: Gigabyte Gtx 570 1280mb card
Ram: 4 gigs ddr3

I'm thinking next update should be graphics card, because I've been told that cpu is overrated in most games with the exception of odd games such as StarCraft which use the cpu mostly. Was I told wrong? Would you recommend new Processor before updating my Graphics card? At one time I had a gtx 470 but it died and last year and gigabyte replaced it with a 570. Would it be dumb if I went for a graphics card update such as gtx 770 or 780 when it comes over a new processor? Some will say something like that will bottleneck my system, but others tell me that since my processor is a quad core and at 3.4ghz that I shouldn't worry about bottlenecking. Would you say it's too soon to update a gtx 570 to a 770 or 780?

I see no real need to upgrade unless you're pushing higher than 1920x1080. At that resolution, turn AA off or to x2. Most games should run fine on your system (as in +30 FPS). If you truly want to upgrade, do so with your processor. I noticed a fair bit of bottlenecking with my previous 1045T at 3.5 GHz.

I would recommend a 3570k with a decent z77 board. They easily overclock to +4.0 GHz, not to mention that they are already much more efficient at similar clock speeds.

As far as AMD goes, your CPU is still on the market and is still considered to be one of the very best AMD has to offer.
I don't see any reason for you to upgrade anything, maybe upgrade your hard drive.

Don't no guys, some of the newer games I can't run with Ultra graphics at 1920x1200 resolution without noticing too much of a slowdown. Something is messing that up, either my Graphics card or Processor. How much more resolution is 1200 over 1080 only a little bit more?

Games that are starting to kick my rigs ass. Tomb Raider and now Bioshock Infinite. Tomb Raider I couldn't run tressfx on it and Bioshock won't let me go on ultra on it without losing fps at 1920x1200 resolution. I turned graphics down to high and everything runs good but every so often I get a huge drop in frame-rate, same thing happened in Tomb Raider every so often. Where a split second the game freezes and unfreezes. Is this processor related or gpu? I might really have to update my cpu even tho I don't want to. What is making these games act up at the resolution graphics I'm playing them at? It's only the newest titles that my rig has acted weird like this.

Oh you're one of those people that play newer games at future specs or like post processing filters like Anti aliasing.
I high recommend you get the GTX 780, and check websites for frame rate benchmarks if you're still wondering why you're not getting 60 frames per second with specific games.

Well,I'll never get 60fps in a game. I always have vsync on and I forget if that limit fps to 30 or maybe it can limit it to 60? I like vsync on because it stops screen tearing. Also, doesn't everyone want to have best graphics possible? Must beat Console gamers.

Yeah to an extent but most console gamers like to play on console for social and financial reasons. Don't hate on them!

3.4Ghz is a lot for gaming. Should upgrade your graphics card if you experience slowdown in-game.

And get faster storage drives if you haven't already.

If you're a Newgrounds OG who appreciates Flash games with depth, check out the game I made in 2024.

Thats what I though, but I ran MSI Afterburner and my gpu is not getting 99 percent usage out of it in recent games. That means my gtx 570 is bottlenecking in certain games because of my cpu I think or unless maybe its because the game needs patches or driver updates?

vsync limits the frame rate to the displays refresh rate, which is often 60hz aka 60fps. tearing happens mostly when the frame rate is under the displays refresh rate.

According to benchmarks, you should be getting 30-60 FPS in Bioshock Infinite with everything on Ultra except for shadows (which are on high). If you are getting lower framerates than that, I recommend turning off vsync. If you are still having issues, then it has to do with your processor.

I recall my Phenom II 1045T at 3.5 GHz dipping into the low 20's with Crysis 2. I switched my GPU from a 5850 to a 6970 and received the same framerates after upgrading. I then upgraded my processor to a 2600k and started getting much better performance.

The performance difference between 2 GB of RAM and 4 GB is phenomenal. The performance difference between 4 GB of RAM and 8 GB of RAM is negligible unless you are a scientist or high-res artist.
