3.79 / 5.00 3,779 ViewsJust curious as to your opinions on the concept of "Videogamia" where inadvertently our video games have been training our youth to be capable of certain tasks that would normally require years of formal training.
It's similar to this question:
If we take two cavemen and put them in a fight, and one cave man has been watching kung fu movies his whole life, who would you bet your tokens on?
I say this all because I noticed the videos on youtube just keep getting crazier and crazier every year. Like I just saw a Bear twirl around a Bo Staff like he was doing karate. (And I bet he thought he was!)
Then you add in all this crazy freerunning and tricking that's getting more and more common (If you don't know what Tricking is check this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHAXgRgyfVg&feature=youtu.be )
It makes you start to wonder if all these video games have actually been implanting programs into our heads. Not always like the in your face "go kill your parents" programs, but most likely un-intentional hand eye co-ordination upgrades.
Take any two athletes at a similar size and physical abilities, 1 thinks video games are for nerds and doesn't like to read The other is mad good at smash brothers.
You know the answer to that question.
Thoughts?

The fact that he doesn't like to read makes it all the more menacing

No.
It's been proven time and time again, no matter the amount of fighting, FPS, or otherwise games one could see as realistic, it in no way trains you to do anything from the game in real life.
However, video games DO improve motor skills and hand eye coordination.

Yeah, the last time I was in a fight in real life I just spammed a and b
Video games have taught me situational one-liners that I use irl
There's some electromagnetic brain trainer thing that stimulates certain areas of the brain and makes you learn and (long-term) replicate how professionals do things, like martial arts, sniping, etc. But not video games

Mirror Edge has so unrealistic wall running, that even David Belle himself can't do it.

it's still fun, don't need to be realistic

Not going to lie, video games taught me how to drive esp. Gran Turismo and I learned a lot about cars and physics from just that game alone.
The only thing videogames do is teach you how to kill.
Because I played Metal Gear I can now become a federal agent.
But in all seriousness I do think that video games have a profound impact on hand eye coordination, how much that is I don't know.
I can slay dragons thanks to Skyrim!

Implying Manhunt series...
Yeah, we keep making video games after video game that teaches our kids to load up on weapons and kill each other. Why don't we make games that teach some other lesson instead? Like "It is no use locking the stable door after the horse has bolted"?

What about mirror neurones? Did you think about that? If you were to get 2 cavemen who were exactly identical in every way except 1 watched kung-fu, I'd bet on the kung-fu guy.
well, there are some games that can make gamers more reactive and respond to stress faster...not everything gaming teaches are bad.
