Hello and welcome to the Newgrounds Audio Portal 10th Anniversary Contest! NGAPTAC (pronounced ingaptack) for short!

NGAPTAC? What's that?

Well, nearly 2 weeks ago, Wegra noticed that just over a month ago (on the 13th of February) we just hit our Audio Portal 10-year anniversary mark. For over a decade, the Audio Portal has been pumping out music from countless music artists! Pretty amazing, huh?

This contest, which is also Pico Day's official audio contest, is here to commemorate such an occasion.

What's the aim of the contest?

The aim is to hop onto the now-10-year-old Audio Portal, find your favourite Audio Portal music, and make a cover of it. It's that simple!

Really? It's THAT simple?

Of course not. Here are some rules to follow for the contest!

1.) You can only submit ONE entry and it must cover Audio Portal music which isn't your own.

2.) Your entry can contain composition from one or more than one Audio Portal song. Post names and/or links to the Audio Portal songs you're covering in the Author's Comments.

3.) Your entry must be submitted to the Audio Portal and linked to in this thread. This thread can also be used for discussion.

4.) Your entry has to be newly made for the competition.

5.) It has to be possible to recognise the original Audio Portal song you're covering in your entry.

6.) Collaboration is allowed, but remember that everyone taking part has to be credited. You've got to decide how to split the prizes too!

7.) Your cover has to be made from scratch. If the judges see participants that grab other Audio Portal songs and pitch-shift them to another key, for example, I'll pitch-shift their asses to a disqualification. It is alright to use some sounds that are in the original song but keep this to a minimum (preferably nothing at all).

8.) This is a MUSIC competition. This means no voice-acting, no experimental-noise and no farting into your microphone.

9.) All Audio Portal rules apply. Failure to comply with said rules will result in a disqualification and possibly even an audio ban. And yes, BBS rules apply too.

How will the competition be judged?

First off, we've got four judges; Buoy, SkyeWintrest, ZStriefel and me! Your songs will be judged on the usual factors that make up a high-quality piece of music such as composition, instrumentation, mixing/mastering, structure, etc... However even though this is a remix competition we're still looking for originality! Any entries that are creative and interpret the original song in unique and good ways will get extra points from us.

Dates, schedules, etc...?

20th April at 11:59 PM EST (NG Time) - Submission deadline.
27th April (Pico Day) - Results will be posted in another thread.

Any entries posted after the submission deadline will not be considered, unless it's for a ridiculously good reason, in which case contact me!

Every participant will be PM'd when the results are posted with a link to the thread. The judges will also post a review on each submission's Audio Portal page after the results are posted, so don't do anything stupid like delete the submission!

Also I could've sworn you mentioned prizes.

That's right! Since this contest is tied in with Pico Day, Tom has offered real cash prizes. The forum signatures will be courtesy of Akle!

1st Place:
- 1st Place forum signature
- A showcase on the frontpage of one submission of your choice
- $150

2nd Place:
- 2nd Place forum signature
- A showcase on the frontpage of one submission of your choice
- $75

3rd Place:
- 3rd Place forum signature
- A showcase on the frontpage of one submission of your choice
- $50 Store Credit

4th - 6th Place:
- A showcase on the frontpage of one submission of your choice

One more question. Where the hell am I going to get Audio Portal songs from?

Do the rules say you can't? Nope.

So yes, it's perfectly OK. Just make sure you credit any singers and discuss sharing the prize with them. In addition to that, make sure that like it says in the rules, the original track's melodies are still discernible in your remix, even if there are vocals.

Wow, this seriously is a brilliant idea. I'm definitely entering in for this. Pretty hard to believe there's been audio on NG for over 10 years now. Definitely am looking forward to covering someone's music. As much as I'd love for someone to cover mine, I'm unfortunately not famous enough for that, haha

Oh my. Oh dear.. I've been waiting for a contest like this for some time now. I have no idea who's song I'm going to cover, but I better make sure I create the best track possible to the best of my ability.

Also, I'm glad this contest was created. The audio portal has been my lifeblood for many years.
