Maybe the directory sorting isn't an issue then (10 TB for music holy shit I only have one 2TB drive + backup) but the rest of those things I mentioned definitely are. There are plenty of formats I have that would be a waste of time converting from lossy-lossy, that iTunes can't play. I guess my main reason for not liking iTunes is for the ample fact that it's owned by Apple. I like their computers but I hate their attitude. I also hold a grudge from back when they bundled iTunes together with quicktime and forced you to install both.

Winamp for music (I could use it to sync my Sansa Clip+ but I prefer to manage that manually) and of course, VLC for videos. I love VLC. Winamp is alright

Winamp is oldskool. :)

I never mentioned what I use for video files btw, it's MPC HC, using Shark007s codec pack. So far the only codec pack that doesn't seem to crash anything, and generates thumbs for all filetypes.

I use VLC. I used to use Winamp before the dark event that lost all of my music files...

MPC-HC for chinese cartoons and VLC for other shit, video-wise. foobar2k for music.

I use Spotify for music. It's automatically loaded all of the music on my computer so I can listen to that easily, and I can also listen to music that isn't mine (but with adverts). Playlists are really easy to create, there's a radio thing for finding new songs based on what you already listen to (helped me discover most of my favourite bands) and it's just really simple to use.

I don't use anything for video, I don't download videos. I don't think YouTube really counts, does it? I never watch DVDs on my laptop either, I always use my TV.

They're both borderline monopolies in different areas. The thing I don't like about Apple is how they're feeding on the brand and not the product, and it's much more hype than it is for Microsoft. When one of Microsoft's products isn't any good, there's not a crazy fanbase ready to deny it. I'm not very happy about their latest OS either, but where's the alternative?
