Writing a game review (Question) 2013-03-20 16:55:50 Reply

So I basically wanted to know a few basic guide lines to writing a game review. Now I know I could use the magnificent gift of google, but I want to see what the community thinks is a good game review. Basically what to cover, maybe the order of the things I mention, stuff like that.

Also, forgive me if this causes any confusion, I had no other place to put this question. This topic seemed the most fitting at first glance.

That's very personal... Some people are very cold to make review and some people are sarcastic (like me) when the game sucks. But always remember: be realistic, and don't ignore bullshit. NEVER make a monograph. People that make giant reviews are stupid.

How to write a Video Game Review:

To simplify this, I will make a numerical step-by-step howto, on how to write a review:

1. Make it short; You're writing a review, not a story, people tend to like simple, short-medium reviews, rather than one large mess of one.

2. Add wit, if possible; To elaborate, if you are incapable of wit, you won't be noticed, so if that is the case, learn, or borrow from other people. You could joke about it, or be cynical, whatever makes people laugh.

3. Make it helpful; Remember, don't make it too short, it needs all of the detail, and to get that detail, you'll need to go deep into it, and compact it into a nice little cuboid, figuratively, that is.

4. Don't Bullshit It; If a game is bad, it's bad, even if a close friend made it, shit is shit. People don't like to be fooled, remember that.

5. Don't be too cynical; For example, try to be a bit nice from time-to-time and mention where the developers could improve, but still hammer in the fact, that it is horrible, and it shouldn't be bought, or kiss the dev's ass, if it is good, remember to mention it's flaws.

I hope you enjoyed reading my little jabber about how to write a review. (If you need more info, which I doubt, just PM me.)
