It's about as retarded as saying "male or female television audiences". Anyone who watches television is just a person who watches television, possibly with a group of people. I don't let terms like "Trekkie" or "Lostaways" or "Seddiers" affect me.
Hopefully one day, there will we no need to shout your gender in a videogame to be noticed, in that cynic way, that alot of people hates.

I'm not surprised that women play video games, gamers are gamers regardless what they look like and if there gamers then they just are.
sometimes the news tends to act like reality tv shows with there pointless jabbering. I'm guessing the reporters where trying to keep there jobs trying to find something to talk about ha kinda reminds me of yahoo's many lame supposedly news highlights.
Hopefully Rockstar will keep doing what they do best and won't make a game taking in the consideration of females.

Really, this sounds like these news reporters are a day late and a dollar short, considering that their has been girl gamers for a pretty long time.
this. my aunt was a gamer back in the early 90s. gb and mac stuff mostly.. she had wario blast, ducktales, her brother's copy of zelda: link's awakening, wolfenstein 3d, oh no more lemmings, warcraft 2: tides of darkness, super mario land, dr mario, and maybe a few more things i've forgotten about...
it was my aunt and uncle who really got me into video gaming in the first place.. not even my father, who was aloof enough to let me play duke nukem 3d sitting on his lap.. i enjoyed the game dont get me wrong, i just wasnt drawn into it until my aunt and uncle showed me the wonders of the gb and the mac.
my father got me into other games later.. rogue squadron and quake? those were all him. but if my aunt werent a gamer, i'd likely have never become one myself.

I never had any faith in the "Gamer" trope to begin with, Video games are so widespread that even 10-20 years ago the word "Gamer" really lost all meaning.
However, despite all that being said, I can't help but find it to be a very attractive quality when I chat with a women in a game like TF2 and discover that not only do they play frequently, but is very good at it.
