Saying goodbye

If you think this is a goodbye thread about me leaving I'm terribly sorry I'm not leaving.
This thread is about saying goodbye to a friend.
My best friend Tony left for basic training this morning.
I've been very sad the last week cause he'll be gone for at least three months.
Now, I know I sound selfish but I miss the Hell out of him already.
I do understand that thing could be much worse as in he could be dead.
So NG have you guys had friends that have left for a long time?
How did you deal with it?

Yeah, as a matter of fact friends just keep disappearing, going to study abroad, getting a job someplace remote, just... moving. But then I've also moved plenty myself, so there's been a lot of goodbyes. Through Internet they are never really that far away though, just a screen away!

There should be some way for you to keep contact with him. I have a friend who has been in Germany for quite a few months and we still talk regularly.

When he comes home for a break hopefully he will contact you and you guys can get back in touch.

Well, good luck to him in Basic then. My older brother went through the Navy's ROTC training (while in law school), and he said it's tougher than enlisted training...so best of luck to him!

Sometimes i thought how he was doing. But life just goes on.
It was pretty awesome when he came back though.

It sucks that you won't see him, but just imagine this- when he gets back, he won't be the same. You two can pretend nothing has changed, but things have. You'll slowly drift out of touch and you'll find yourself two years later drinking shots alone at home in the dark while looking at an old picture of you two hanging out when you were young.

That's life. Sometimes it feels like everyone is slowly moving forward, and I'm just standing right here.

Watching them drift away.
