Prepare your anuses.

No seriously, discuss. Who's going to go for it, who already has it, and what do you think? I've been in on it since Beta, and I think that while Ableton Live 8 is an astonishingly powerful musical tool, Live 9 isn't worth the $250 upgrade. If you don't already own Live 8, then Live 9 Suite is definitely worth the $750 USD they're charging. I rarely ever use external VSTs because the selection is so vast (They even gave us multiple compressors and multiple EQs)!

The Glue compressor. I used to have the SLL compressor (in hardware) that it's modeled after. I can attest to the accuracy of the plug. Truly warm and easily brings out the waves of warmth and power in a track without having to over-compress it.

EQ 8 is definitely cool, but I still prefer Fab Filter's Pro-Q for surgical EQ repair/enhancement.

I think that's about it. Comments, questions?

Oh shit, it's out today? I've been using the beta a ton, but I do agree not sure if it's worth the upgrade price. I thought I'd use the audio to midi feature a lot, but honestly I've only used it in a few select cases. The rest of the new stuff is pretty awesome though.

The audio to MIDI is great when I'm working with people who aren't in on the theory side of things, or if want my guitar solo to become a synthesizer. Other than that, I don't use it.

I was looking at Live 9 earlier today because I've always wanted to try Ableton... but never have (Despite the fact that I have like 2-3 copies of Lite from other products).

And because the APC40 I'm planning on getting soon works native with Ableton... but I'm scared I'll have buyers remorse... buying it to find out I still much prefer FL Studio.

Suppose it'd do me well to at least try Lite before even considering buying Live 9.

Don't be discouraged by Lite. Lite is, in comparison, pathetic. The first encounter I had with Live was with Lite, and I thought it was horrible. A few tutorials converted me from my five-year FL studio addiction with remarkable ease. I honestly wish that I had started using it sooner. By now, after using Live for a few years, the only complaint I can possibly come up with is that it's more expensive than FL Studio. The only things that bothered me were added/fixed in 9.

And there was much rejoicing!

Already got the update. I still miss better dual screen support and it doesn't feel like a really huge upgrade overall, but it's still an awesome upgrade. The audio to midi feature worked surprisingly well in the beta.

Get the trial first. You can even test suite as far as I know, and you can fully test it for 1 month.

And if you're in college, elementary school or whatever you can also get an EDU discount.

Damn you all... I downloaded the trial for Live 9... and after reading through the basic tutorial and playing around a bit... I'm tempted to buy it... I like how things flow so well for improvisation... I can see why people say Ableton Live is great for playing live now...

I've messed with FL Studio's Performance Mode a bit too... but so far, it doesn't seem to hold a candle even to Live's way of doing things.

... Guess I'm gonna end up being broke again soon.

I'm going to be straight honest, I had no idea that there was a performance mode in FL.

It's a fairly recent addition... as in... like... FL Studio 10.5 (Beta).... I don't think it's even officially released yet.

You get it for free... it's just that it's not out of beta yet, so you need to download the latest beta version of FL Studio to try it out.

I'm currently using AL8, though i haven't seen or heard anything about whats different with 9 yet. I'm not sure if ill end up shelling out extra cash for an upgrade or not unless its extremely worth it. Though as it stands Ableton Live 8 is a solid music making machine. I'm happy with it.

Really? I've been using it constantly since the moment it released and I've not crashed once.

I'm considering buying the Standard upgrade mainly due to the fact Ableton is FINALLY a 64 bit DAW. I primarily use VST's and the biggest issue I've had with Live 8 is that it's limited to 32bit and therefore will only make use of 4GB of RAM.....I have 12GB and would like to be able to take advantage of all of it.

I'm more than likely going to try the Live 9 demo first and see if I like it....and if not.....I'm officially going to switch to Cubase.

Finally cleared up the problem with my Ableton account and got a free upgrade to Live 9 Suite.

Gotta say so far my favorite new feature is the Convolution Reverb. That thing is awesome

Maybe it's just me, but a lot of the vsts (especially the free ones) are limited to 32bit and don't show up in my 64 bit version of Suite 9...

That's very unfortunate to hear. I remember hearing that the Live8 64bit beta did not support 32bit VST's and that concerned me for the release of Live 9.
If Live 9 64bit does not support 32bit VST's, that's a huge problem and something Ableton should fix. I believe most other 64bit DAWs can use 32 bit VST's. I guess one could always use Jbridge as an alternative.

Dahhh screw it. I just purchased the standard edition (it was $159 for me to upgrade). A shame I won't get to experience convolution reverb though...
