Why are boys so into violence? Mar. 2nd, 2013 @ 02:28 AM Reply

Don't lie; if you were a little boy you played cowboys & Indians or cops & robbers or this vs. that and fake-fought your friends all the time. And there's really nothing wrong with that.

Of course, clearly actual violence isn't a pleasant thing, so why do we like the idea of it so much? Why is it that ever since we're little, we need to have toy weapons and fighting roleplays and watch Madness on Newgrounds?

I'm not going to lie. I love fighting-based video games, movies and novels as much as the next guy. However, I've been in enough intense situations to know being in the presence of a fight is not at all a fun thing to actually have happen. Some boys I've met can't even make that distinction (though most can), and end up being violence-loving fuck-ups.

Why is it that we love the idea of fighting so much, Newgrounds? It's a psychological question that's bugged me for quite some time, and there's no straightforward answer to it, but...

What do you think, Newgrounds?

"I use to get in fights for fun, that's your way of getting to know someone when you don't know how to love"

we need violence as much as we need love.. life is 50/50 and we enjoy to watch the acts we won't dare act out.. doesn't mean we don't think about them regardless becasuse.. they are true.

Power. A violent woman isn't seen as a powerful thing in modern society.

how did they bully you? verbally? physically? both?

word 100% I entered highschool at 70 pounds and started wrestling and winning at up to 130 pounds.. I wish I could hurt everyone who ever treated you bad man 'cause that's my one true hate I used to pick on anyone who would treat people bad in order for them to put them selves in vulnerable situations where they either got beat up or apolgized when they realized they couldn;t win..

it's a part of life but it sucks and I hate those people who treat others bad.. I based my whole existence of going against the grain at this point./

it's funny growing up catholic and in religious school I always felt like the devil/a demon and I was always the one who cared about people as a whole.

Not gonna lie I've spent a lot of time wondering this myself. I don't fight a lot, but.. I always find myself thinking about past fights.

Lately I've been feeling like I could just get into a fight for breathing the wrong way, but I haven't been worried, in fact part of me hopes for it because I've been pretty angry on and off the past few weeks.

I suppose it's a survival instinct. Back in the day when people didn't have a functioning society, violence was needed to solve disputes and hunt. It's in the genes.

No. I did not.

Of course, clearly actual violence isn't a pleasant thing, so why do we like the idea of it so much? Why is it that ever since we're little, we need to have toy weapons and fighting roleplays and watch Madness on Newgrounds?

It is fun to watch. It is fascinating.

There is a difference between watching and pariticpating. They should have known.

Why is it that we love the idea of fighting so much, Newgrounds? It's a psychological question that's bugged me for quite some time, and there's no straightforward answer to it, but...

Fighting is part of survival. It is a method to assert dominance.

We're animals, very advanced and highly evolved but still animals. We men need to compete with each other, we need violence, blood, aggression... fuck yeah, it's good to be a man.

hormones like testosterone and adrenaline
quick question: would a eunuch with an adrenaline gland problem think about violence, regardless of which way he was brought up
or, would a normal person, or one who always used to think of violence, do so if they had a 'problem' that forced them to stop getting them

Because men like the idea of being the hero/antihero and conquering an enemy through heroic means. These mock fights help simulate the fantasy.

That's my theory anyway

Hmm... I don't know about that.

I know we most likely have certain instincts like any other animal and we descended from animals (assuming evolution theory is true), but I don't know if we can still blame certain behaviour on "natural instinct" at this point. More often than not it sounds like a weak excuse for doing dumb things.

Example, if someone is hitting on my girlfriend, my natural instinct might tell me to fight him off. On the other hand, I could also act sensible and realise that my girlfriend is perfectly capable of telling the guy to scoot herself and thus, I don't need to get violent. I feel like I'd be an idiot if I were to punch the guy in the face anyway.

Of course there are still instincts that we can't really overcome (like the survival instinct), but I don't know if that natural, primitive reflex to act violent in certain situations is still so deeply rooted into our brains. I doubt it.

Not sure if I'm making much sense here, but I hope you get the point.

When you say "boys" do you mean children? If so it's because children don't have enough experience to imagine what it's actually like and think of it on a different perspective, usually as the way it's portrayed in video games and cartoons.

And you sound like a pansy.
