2007 users get their cue and can now act out what they've rehearsed so many times in anticipation of this day
And now I'll step in.
Bigbadron used to be a big deal, EyeLovePoozy too, both were two trolls who just so happened to be mods. Bigbadron actually ended up deleting my original accounts "EvilConker" "GoodConker" and "NeoConker" which I supported with rather shitty .gifs of conkers in those scenarios.
Otherwise, there was the Sirtom 'scandal,' Wade used to be much more hated then he is now - he's pretty much just an old man now (lol) and there was a large controversy when a user made a flash that insulted his wife, which made him go apeshit and ban him (even though it was supposedly freedom of speech.)
Mods in general used to be a bigger deal, right now I can't really count the mods off the top of my head, but they used to be as corrupt as the seven seas. They would BASK in their power, literally, and had a very, VERY, small tolerance.
Tom also used to be God, I remember when I first met him in PAX East my heart stopped, compare that to the next year where I barely talked to him and the year after that where I trolled him for luls and he lolled back.
I think there was a big thread about some crazy dream a user had about Tom Fulp, encountering him in a store or something. It had a LOT of posts.
Photoshop threads also used to be MUCH more prevalant.
Before the advent of User Pages, literature was posted in the General Forum. So what ended up happening was that there were these HUGE threads with these ongoing chapters in them, where users would chip in and writers would get a lot of exposure. Sadly, that died when the mods decided to ban it because 'stories belonged on the user page.'
For better or worse, I suppose. I think one big one had a military version of the BBS, "a call to arms" or something like that.
Life wise, ParagonX was basically the only musician with a nickle to her name. The talent pool used to be MUCH smaller, mostly on the idea that only a few users could be 'famous.' Meetups also began popping up around 2007/2008, and that's when popularity started spreading about.
Also, there used to be a LOT of portal spam. The clock crew were very prevalant, as well as the Locks, Socoms, Kitty Krew, and Stars. I actually ended up forming an "anti-spam" group called The Rebellion which crashed terribly, but was a good shot in the dark.
I think the NG Police Brigade still exists, but they're as useful as rocks.
Stamper never got around to updating that "some user account thingy here" text at the bottom of the NG Layout, which would replace the "sign up" text when browsing while not logged in.
There's a lot of other stuff, but I'd need key terms to shake up my memory. Feel free to ask for specifics, just quote me so I can see it.
I guess a testament to how the forums have changed has been that I JUST reached 5k a few days ago, which used to be a huge deal - the important thing is that most of those 5k were done a WHILE ago, and I've only recently began 'posting' again.
