Keep in mind, FMA was a special exception so you can't expect all animes with gecko endings to have the same. We're lucky that Bones were willing to do this for FMA.

Of course. It also helps when the 2003 anime was very popular in Japan and elsewhere, which I would certainly believe that eventually led to FMA Brotherhood, among other things. Unfortunately, I can't see Lied or Wonderland {and many others} ever getting a similar treatment when their respective manga ends, which is the most disappointing part, especially for those who don't read manga on a regular basis.

It also doesn't help that Elfin Lied was only on Japanese satellite TV and was spread purely by word of mouth because of the excessive gore and nudity.

Granted the example I'm using is different but I heard of Madoka Magica for sometime when once I learn about what happened in episode 3, I decided to check it out.

When it comes to diclonius, the Nazis actually came up with a propaganda regarding Jews and horns. Difference was that the horns were ridges but still applies so I wouldn't be surprised if Lynn got the idea from that. In other words, Lucy, Nana, and others are Jewish.

I couldn't follow what the fuck was going on throughout the entire series up until the last few episodes where they attempted to tie everything together in a forced rushed ending. The gore was way too brutal and even random at times. (There's a point in the series somewhere where a character is speaking and just out of the blue gets his head chopped off)

I don't know. I really didn't like it either. I watch anime casually, and it kind of killed my drive to watch anything else for a while.

I'd say Naruto and Bleach like half of you did, but I can't really judge them properly as I've watched only a dozen or so episode from each before I quit. And, y'know, there's at least another 300 episodes of those series. Who knows if they got better (prolly not).
The worst one is School Days. Never have I been so pleased to see humans get brutally murdered before. The story sucks, it's generic in almost every way possible and the characters are just despicable.
As for the one that annoys me the most, it's Evangelion. Everyone just talks about the "artsy" existentialist bullshit that takes up less than half of the episodes in the show, but completely forget the excellent monster-of-the-day show that it was. And it also doesn't help that Shinji and Asuka are some of the most annoying characters I've ever seen, and to think people actually say they relate to them is hilarious.
