Cyanide & Happiness Animation Gig!

As many of you were aware, Cyanide & Happiness was slated to have its own TV show. The guys ultimately decided they weren't comfortable with all the strings attached, so they decided to re-focus on making animated episodes for the web. They launched a Kickstarter that has already passed the $250k goal in five days. THINGS ARE LOOKING GOOD.

The C&H crew are looking for animators and if you think you're a good fit, fill out their application form!

Cyanide Happiness has deep roots here on NG. Rob DenBleyker was posting animations here since 2001 and was originally best known for the Joe Zombie series. The C&H gang met here on NG, started with comics and then moved into animation, with Chase from Tomorrow's Nobodies coming aboard as well. There's a rich history of NG throughout C&H and that tradition can continue with this new chapter!

I'll be honest, as clever as their jokes may be, this seems an insane money for something as simply animated as C&H. This reminds me an aweful lot of the Dick Figures Kickstarter: 300.000 dollars for a 40-minute stick figure animation a single guy could do in flash in about 2 months.

So I'm REALLY looking forward to this.

I was thinking the same way about animations like this before, but I know about a crowdfunding project for a cartoon episode that needed 150k plus 100k that the 'inventor' of the series had already invested thus far. For only one episode. Even though its animation was slightly less simple, the 250k for 8 episodes that C&H want to produce don't seem to be much in comparison.

It's hard to compare a cartoon production for a TV show with the (although equally good) stuff you can find on NG where people put their creative energy and time into personal projects or collaborations with friends. If you wanna hire animators, you gotta pay them.

And I can see why $250,000 might seem high if we were animating this ourselves, but most of that money (whatever isn't going to the backer rewards) is to pay animators from NG and elsewhere to be part of the team that brings these to life. We're treating this like a professional production which means talent should be compensated.

In between those two goals are a goal to make 3 months of shorts, and the inclusion of a plushy in some of the rewards. That jump isn't just for the two new episodes, there is lots of cool shit along the way.

I had no idea what the Rob was the creator of Joe Zombie - I remember that from way way back!

I guess the uniting of the C&H artists is just more support that the collaborative aspect of Newgrounds is one of its most powerful features.
