I believe, and I don't know if I am alone when I say that if NewGrounds added support for .exe files instead of just .swf users who use gamemaker to make their games it would help create site revenue. Many people use gamemaker including myself and I can not convert from a Game maker exe file to a swf since there is no easy way to compile in that format. Please post your support for this topic by repsonding to it and hopefully NewGrounds will respond.

I am not a game maker but I'm fairly sure if you can pack it into an .EXE you can probably pack it into a .SWF, it's not that hard.

Of course, you would know that isn't that hard, not being a game maker and all.

Anyways, allowing .exe files would allow for a LOT of abuse. There's no way to just look whether or not something was made in game maker, and preliminary virus checks can only do so much.

There are programs that let you convert exe to swf, just search for 'exe to swf' and you should find plenty. As for allowing the format on NG, it's not a format that can be directly embedded in a browser, and even if it was it's prone to abuse since you could include basically anything within an .exe file and there would be no easy way to analyze content to see what's malware and what's not. People would start uploading spyware like crazy. :/

Nah, you can't really convert .exe to .swf, it's just that Flash allows you to export .exe files, which is basically just a self-contained flash player that plays your flash movie; these are the .exes you can convert.

Ah, I was wondering how the conversion would actually work, good knowing.

If someone made an exe2swf converter that works, they must have spent a lot of time making it work. You'd have to decompile the exe, and then map the basic assembly instructions (inputs, outputs, and game logic) to instructions that flash would understand (and considering that flash is a virtual machine, not an operating system, I would expect them to have totally different perspectives of the world). Then there is the whole issue of dependencies. It sounds basically impossible.

It might be possible if you created a library that you included in your c++ project that handled the input/output and you turned compiler optimization stuff off, so you got some straight forward assembly code with the i/o in a nicely structured format (and you didn't use any external libraries). Then you could try translating it into whatever the hell flash understands.

This is pure speculation. I feel smart for being able to make such an educated guess as this though xD

Do you even know what the fuck a .exe file is?

Nevermind, if you did know you'd immediately realize how completely and utterly retarded this idea is.

That's not good.

Again, if you can code in C#, C++, java, AS, whatever, that's fucking cool, but don't be such an elitist about it.
Who fucking cares what a game is made in if the game is good?

Because Gamemaker limits creativity. I'm sure if the best Gamemaker user in the World and the average Newgrounds Flash user go together the Gamemaker program would be better but I garment you the Worlds greatest Flash user would demolish.

You said, "Come at me" and now you're calling me an eletist. You're acting like programming is fucking impossible.

There's always a way to do something in the program, there are so many techniques and shit it would make your head spin.

You said, "Come at me" and now you're calling me an eletist. You're acting like programming is fucking impossible.
you're right with this. I'm just tired of feeling like my game is going to be automatically judged just because I made it
in game maker. I was in a feisty mood.

I've been working on this one game for the past 3 months and it's coming along great, but I don't want people to see
that it's made with GM and say "GAEM MAKR SUX!!!!1!!1"

and I don't think programming is impossible, but it's definitely not the easiest thing to do. At least from what I have seen.

I'm one of those who won't judge you by what tool you will use, I've played Iji and it's still my favourite Game Maker game I've ever played, hell it's better then many other half-assed freeware games I've ever played so far, Iji is made by Game Maker and it's done so professionally that you won't notice it's even made by Game Maker, so yeah there's that.

it's just there are many crappy games made with game maker but this also applies with flash movies/games being submitted on newgrounds everyday so in that case flash may as well have the same reputation seeing that there are incompetent submissions passing on newgrounds.

However .exe support on newgrounds is wrong tough, theres gamejolt for that, I'm more happy that Tom Fulp have implemented (albeit invite only) html5 support for newgrounds, I am a Construct 2 user myself and this benefits me.
