Girls Over-sheltered? Feb. 17th, 2013 @ 07:04 PM Reply

Most of the girls I knew in high school went to college not knowing how to drive. They never even took driver's ed. My brother had to work on a project with this chick and her parents wouldn't let her come over to our house to do it. She was like 17. I knew a couple of girls that weren't allowed to have dates until late in high school. I had a girlfriend when I was 17 that I only was ever able to see at her house when her parents were there (that didn't last long).

Thinking back it seems like a shit ton of girls were extremely sheltered, is this a new thing? I mean how are these girls gonna function in the real world?

I'm guessing that they'll just go wild in college and then find a husband to take care of them. Or stay sheltered forever.

no wonder they're such bad drivers ahahaha sexism

It probably has more to do with bad reflexes and poor spatial reasoning.

Yeah but you can't shelter someone that much and seriously expect them to function fine when they're suddenly thrust out into the real world.

Because their parents know what troubles young men can get their daughters into.

I've honestly never known any girls who were sheltered that much at that age.

Who cares some girls are over sheltered? Tell them to kill themselves and move on.

Most girls I knew in high school lost their virginity when they were 12 and were drunk driving by 15

So what does this have to do with being "over-sheltered"? If anything if goes against the point you are attempting to make as such people take public transport with strangers rather than driving themselves.

Are you fucking kidding me

It means that they can't drive themselves anywhere and they can't get a job and they don't have a skill that they'll need as adults. There's no public transit here so basically if you couldn't drive in highschool and your parents didn't let kids pick you up you were stuck at home.

Wow, it is somewhat like my high school except the girls lose their virginity when they are around 16.

Where do you live? Utah? The mountain region? That would explain why. There's Mormons up the wah-zoo in that god-forsaken high desert. Other than that, parents are just setting their kids up for life-destructing addictions that their kids don't know anything about.

Women need to experience and learn from life just like anyone else, and if someone is forced to not weather any storms then how can they ever be strong enough to face anything difficult in life? Troubles in life can be good thing as long as you overcome and learn from them each time.

Survival. When the worst comes, regardless of your experience, you can stand up to it.

I've led a very sheltered life. When the police came round to my parents house (because my father was downloading child porn) and I ended up in an interview room over it after 6 hours in a shit stained holding cell (because I was out and guess who he said was doing it?), I was shaken, yes, but I prevailed.

The person who I was closest to tried to get me jailed over a crime that he done. Do you know what? I STILL trust people, I still make friends (well, I am not really allowed to socialise). I managed to overcome homelessness and the hunger and pain.

Yeah, it really fucked me up, but I found out that I am strong. My mother (who everyone has always thought to be strong) fell apart.

YOu don't need life experience to take life on, sometimes you can find the strength from within you.

They're going to rely on men to get what they want, get where they want... and they'll rely on themselves to get who they want to get there. :)

I would agree, but to me this only seems to be prevalent in southern U.S. culture. Not learning to drive nor getting a driving permit/license, no sex ed, only has friends in church, and getting pregnant at 18 define the cliche southern teenage girl.

There are like 3 oversheltered girls in the class of 2015, and coincidentally, they're the only non-gross ones.

Shit ain't hard as long as you stay calm, yo. It's hardly different from walking in a hallway; people don't wanna hit you any more than you wanna hit them, and if you're coming at them, odds are they're going to move.

Also don't drive with 2 feet ever.

Most of what you listed is a sign of good parenting. In my opinion, the driving age is too young and I certainly wouldn't want my daughter alone with hormonally stressed out teenagers for long enough for something irresponsible to take place.

If you think that's over-sheltering, that's not even remotely close to being my problem.

It's all anecdotal if that's what you mean.

Would it be acceptable if it was a son instead of a daughter?

IMO most kids can handle a little freedom.

A woman dont need to drive. Daddy drives until a woman is old enough to find her own man to drive her around.
