Its weird, every new Windows version I always used to buy it after SP1, but Windows 8...I dunno.
I heard that Windows 8 has better start up time and all that crap, is it really worth upgrading though?

Unless I build a new computer, I don't upgrade OS. Just, no real practical point to it. Of course, when they were doing their lovely DX10 only on Vista thing, I begrudgingly built a new computer just for it, but still.

I bought Windows 8 a few months ago and I hate it. There's nothing I like about it except for the feature that allows you to use the classic windows 7-like desktop. I don't use any of the Windows 8 features because they're too tablet based and just feel really unnatural on a laptop. The start up time is actually really decent and I like the lock screen features but it really seems like too much of a tablet OS to enjoy.
I guess you can do it if you want though.

Yeah I guess if you really want to be sure you want it go and try it out at a best buy or something. I just bought it based on videos and now regret it.
OOPS.

If you look at the computers windows sells you will see that they integrate tablets and pcs, I guess those are the machines they are testing on.

I got Windows 8 when I updated the parts in my PC, because... why not... Takes a bit of getting used to, and a lot of people really hate it... but it works well enough IMO.
And yes... it does boot up faster... my PC boots up and is ready to go in around 10-13 seconds. Part of that may be due to the fact that my new PC is a beast too.

It would be amazing if microsoft made ads that looked at the OS info in your http request and said something like "Isn't it time you upgraded from $OS to Windows 8?", because then you could actually get that suggestion in all seriousness.

It feels like Windows 7 just came out...
I won't touch Windows 8 until I have to.
Which will probably be when I have to get a new computer.

I'll be sticking with 7 until the next Windows version comes out, just like I stuck with XP/Debian until switching to Windows 7.

I upgraded and I like it, even though Windows 8 was mainly to bake a touch-friendly side to it, they still improved the desktop side of it. And yes, if you're not a fan of metro, it's easy not to see/use it.

Unless you accidentally hit the windows key at any time or move your mouse to the right of the screen or do some weird shit with the scroll pad that I still haven't figured out why it kept bringing up that fucking metro screen.

No, I will not be upgrading to 8.
Why? Because I'm not a soccer mom, an old woman, or an idiot who loves anything with a touchscreen.

Hell no I won't be upgrading. Both of my brothers have Windows 8 on their laptops and I've had to help them with all kinds of bullshit that they wouldn't have to deal with if they had Win7. 8 isn't as bad as Vista was, but it's not a step forward either, imo

I use Vista and Windows 7 on my laptops.
From what I've seen, Windows 8 seems like a useless upgrade. The short time I used it, I felt like I was on the Xbox's home screen and/or my phone.

Explain to me why Vista was bad after SP1.

Xenomit you are getting very easy to agree with these days.
Apple makes me want to throw up in an egg basket because of their shit over-expensive products.

Here's a decent article about how Windows 8 desktop mode has improved since 7:
