A meteorite has flared spectacularly in the sky and exploded over the Russian region of Chelyabinsk, reportedly injuring around 100 people. Fragments of the meteor fell in a thinly populated area of the Chelyabinsk region, the Emergency Ministry said in a statement. Interior Ministry spokesman Vadim Kolesnikov said 102 people had called for medical assistance following the incident, mostly for treatment of injuries from glass broken by the explosions.
There is no genuine link between the two objects, and many doubt that there is. But what do you guys think?

Awesome.
That was neat, i wish meteorites would explode over my city.
That's some really stunning footage of the meteorite coming down from the sky. I think the whole event is crazy, i actually thought it was a hoax on facebook when i first saw it. I feel as if with the way everything has been going lately, it won't take long for some conspiracy theories to pop making ridiculous claims like, "Obama brought the meteor with his Illuminati powers hurpa durp."

I think we need a better interstellar defense system.

I'd wear sunglasses when the skies are blazing.
Poor Russians. In the 1940's they were nearly conquered by the Nazis, then for 40 years they were constantly threatened and bullied by the USA and now Aliens attack them.
That would have been amazing, if not a little scary, to see with my own eyes. That video is great.

At least it was nothing like this.
Its cool they got a video of it. Especially one of it exploding.
Also that sounds a lot like that stuff that happened in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia.
the "Tunguska event" thing.
Though I think that may have been an asteroid exploding.
When life gives you lemons...squirt juice in your enemy's eyes!
Not very important but my lastfm. Click on it if you want...doesn't really matter to me. Not like anyone would.
Highly interesting, a pity the video doesn't actually show much though, the trail is nice and hearing the explosion but seeing it would have been better. Idiots not getting themselves into ridiculously dangerous situations for my enjoyment.

The larger the country the more spread out the population tends to be. Russia is definitely no exception to this rule.

Soon, courtesy of North Korea.
Too bad nobody filmed the meteorite itself, crashing into some commieblocks.

Why is the date on the bottom of the video labeled 12-31-2012? Maybe our brothers over there haven't figured how to change the date yet?

Largest (recorded) to hit Earth in a century, and with a blast comparable to that of a nuclear weapon. Still only 15 metres across though. The one that passes (yn) in a few hours is more like 50 metres I think. Would have been lots more fun.
Nice try Sephiroth! Next time, bring your A game!
I'm not crazy, everyone else is.
