I don't know why anyone expected anything else after the first delay.
The initial announcements described a squad based, tactical FPS with complex AI that would prevent missions playing out the same, with little to no scripted sequences. Sort of like a slower, more strategy based Left 4 Dead.
And then the first gameplay trailers came out and it was a scripted corridor shooter that may as well have been Call of Duty with aliens, and everything since then has only sounded worse and worse.
Why is it so hard to just do the original AVP with graphics that don't look like my toaster could run it? The Marine campaign scared the shit out of me as a kid, impossibly tense, but it has not aged well. I just want to experience the terror of hearing that beeping get louder and faster while not being able to see anything again.
