have you guys ever had experiences where you would start a song in your head and randomly a person next to you starts to whistle or sing it?

why do you think this happens?

it really blows my mind every time it does...

Nope, never happened before.

My compositions are too underground for anyone within my area to hum/whistle.

Dunno, I had an hour long conversation with a friend once (inside our heads) when we were both too drunk and drugged up to either be awake OR asleep. Never had anything music related like that though.

But why I think it happens? It's a trade of eachother's subconcious beliefs or thoughts. Read up on neurolinguistic programming for the whole input > output stuff I cba lol

There was a horse once who could supposedly do math-

People of all kinds would come to the horse and try to stump him. But no matter what the problem was, the horse was able to give the correct answer. He would stomp his hoof the correct amount of times to answer every question- seemingly regardless of complexity.

Finally, someone was able to stump the horse with consistency- and come to find out---- the way to stump the horse is if the person asking the math problem didnt know the answer themselves.

The reason? Animals, (and human beings when they are tripping on hallucinogenics to a degree) are hyper-sensitive to body language - and other little ticks that we wouldn't normally pick up on. Our conscious mind- everything we experience with our 5 senses, as well as our conscious thoughts- take up so much of our awareness that we are not as privy to some subconscious triggers that are happening in great frequency all around us. Non-human animals, perhaps partially due to their lack of verbal phonetic communication are able to pick up on things that we would almost never to very rarely catch. In the case of the horse- it may have been something like a change in the persons body language/face/demeanor once the horse had stomped the correct amount of times.

The relevance to the OP is- there was very likely a trigger that put it in both of your minds that you shared- but you just werent aware of it consciously. So when you both had it in your head at the same time- it seemed supernatural to you.

I've had it many times before and I think I know why.
Many tunes are similar so when the other person starts whistling or humming a tune, and you have that same tune in your head, you immediately make a link between the two. It just goes to show that some people suck so badly at whistling that you dont know what tune they're singing and you immediately think that its the one in your head :)

You remember that, but you forget all the times someone sings a song you weren't thinking of, or when you think of a song and nobody sings it.

In most cases you will both have heard the melody in question recently, whether you remember it or not. In a commercial, a tv show, any random impulse throughout the day.

Sounds pretty cool! Unfortunately it has never happened to me because I usually listen to obscure game music in my head....that sounds strange.
